Name the two main Falex and Vee Block test methods for determining the wear properties and Extreme Pressure properties of a lubricant, and the difference between the two.

For Falex/Timkin, D-2266 and D-2509 for solid lubes, D-2782 for fluid lubricants. The Vee block, D-2625 for solid lubes, D-2670 for fluid.
On the Falex/Timkin, a loaded test block is pressed against a rotating ring or cup.
On the Pin and Vee block, a loaded pin is rotated against two Vee blocks.
On the Falex/Timkin, a loaded test block is pressed against a rotating ring or cup.

For testing lubricating fluids, the tests are D2670 (for measuring wear properties) and D3233 (for measuring Extreme Pressure properties) and each involves a rotating pin squeezed between tow "V" blocks while immersed in the fluid under test. The journal or "pin" is rotated at 290 rpm while the loads are "ratcheted-up" until breakage, siezure, or wear is indicated in the time presribed. The number of teeth of the ratchet mechanism determines results.
