"ASTM D4683" vs "ASTM D4741" (HT/HS Test)

Is Redline the only company that uses the ASTM D4741 test to figure out the HT/HS value? Why? To show higher numbers? Is there a significant diff between the tests?

Is it like comparing apples to oranges when compared to all others that use the D4683 test that all the other use?

I'm assuming the value would be lower if they used the D4683 test...

I looked up the D4741 test and this is a part of what I found:

1.1 This test method covers the laboratory determination of the viscosity of oils at 150C and 1 X 106s-1 and at 100C and 1 X 10 6s-1, using high shear rate tapered-plug viscometer models BE/C or BS/C.

So are the results an average between the two temps? The D4683 only looks at the viscosity at 150C.

In addition Red Line 10w30 is specd at 3.5 on their spec sheet. If you look at Terry's independent ASTM tests he posted in VOA section it was 3.4something... well within normal variance.
