I know its 80 degrees and the next snow is sometime after December 15th. But, leftover from last season is my Ariens st724 machine needing a little love before I bury in the shed til winter.

Before the season ended I bought 2 belts one for the drive wheels and one for the snow blower attachment. I put the belts on myself and after reassmbling I threw the belt off after about 5 minutes of opration. I thought there was something else wrong so I asked the dealer to look at the set up and make sure I installed it right.

The tech put the belt back on and said it was fine. I brought it home 10 minutes it throws the belt. Big fight with tech…. blah blah blah.

I pulled it out today took it apart and the pulley on the engine shaft is about ½ inch out of alignment with the drive pulley for the attachment.
It seems to me that the pullies should be perfectly aligned , am I right? If not how should they be?

There is an allen screw in the pullies..probably will need to take off the tension..remove the belts...key off the pully and loosen the allen screw and move the pully into alignment and then put the belt on and retenstion it.

I would check that the bottom pulley hasn't slipped or broken from its initial location.

I had a toro that blew the weld on the transmission input pulley, yet, incredibly, kept going, as the rubber wheel pushed that pulley up against the auger drive pulley.

No on the loctite, those allen threads corrode plenty on their own to keep the thing from coming loose.
