Are your driving plans changing due to fuel costs?

No, not changing. $3.59 a gallon It's still too high but it's better than it was.

Gas should honestly be in the $2 a gallon range but good luck with that.

Nope, but I don’t travel much anymore mainly due to horrific traffic and the fact it takes forever to get anywhere at any time of day or night. By the time the traffic dies down the road work starts and it’s just a painfully slow nightmare at any time of the day or night. Took me 4 hours to get home from a job that was only 60 miles away last week and that was at 2AM🤦🏻‍♂️. Just getting to the next town oh 3-4 miles away takes upwards of 45 minutes due to the “war on vehicles”.

It is really a war on vehicles around here! They have installed traffic lights everywhere, taken out lanes for bike lanes that no one uses, reduced the speed limits dramatically here. Roads that used to be 2 lanes and 45-55 mph and no lights or stop signs are now one lane and 25 mph and there is a traffic light every block. What used to take 5-10 minutes now takes 30-45 minutes with no traffic! They have eliminated 90 percent of the parking as well! It’s gotten so bad that I dread having to go anywhere, and order almost everything online now. The cops are relentless with speed limit enforcement of these insane speed limits, now they automatically suspend your license if you get 3 tickets in 2 years! It’s outrageous and I am just glad I won’t be around much longer, I can’t imagine growing up today! It’s only going to get worse, and if it hasn’t happened in your area yet, don’t worry it’s coming!

I have completed roughly 4500 miles of road trips since the beginning of May and have another 6000 planned for now through the end of October. Based upon that evidence I would have to say no. Regular has fallen below $4/gal. where I live but my daily driver burns 89-91 octane E0 which costs a little more. I don't really care because the car gets better mileage on the E0 and I am refusing to participate in a misguided and unfunded government mandate.

Yes.

The logic would be that the price per barrel is the lowest in a very long time and, Well the price you're seeing is reflective of how fast prices are go up but slow to come down....
Gasoline prices are not as directly linked to the price of crude oil as they are linked to the price of wholesale gasoline on the commodity markets. That’s the true determining factor and that price is still high.

Gas stations aren’t going to sell you $2 gasoline when they themselves paid $3 for it

Well even if a barrel goes back to $60 - then thats 42 gallons so $1.42 per gallon just for the crude.

Federal tax is 18.4 cents. The cheapest states have around 20 cents a gallon tax. So just raw inputs are now at what - $1.80. It has to be refined. And shipped. And sold at retail. Retail margins are much higher than they would like us to think. They like to tell us they mark it up 3 cents but thats likely the biggest ruse around.

Still, the only times the US average was $2 in the last 20 years was very briefly during covid when they were trying to give it away, and very briefly in 2016 - and if you adjust both those for inflation its not anywhere near $2 anymore.

Not saying I wouldn't love $2 a gallon gas, just don't think we will see it.

The inflation adjusted high just for interest was June 2008 when it hit $4 - which adjusted for CPI is over $6 in today's purchasing power.

Today.
