If you are, please tell me which kind of adhesive 3M uses for their pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) sandpaper. They make the sandpaper, and they make the adhesive, all I have to do is figure out which kind of adhesive they use. Either that or I can go over to the local auto body shop supply and pay $65 for a 25 yard roll of PSA sandpaper.

I'd be spraying the adhesive onto a piece of 3M sandpaper that's cut into a 2.625 inch x 5.5 inch rectangle and then bonding it onto a super rigid Ethylene Vinyl Acetate foam rubber sanding block. The bond obviously needs to be temporary/removable and the adhesive needs to be EVA rubber safe. Which kind of adhesive shall I use ?

McMaster-Carr Spray Adhesives
Motor Guard Sanding Blocks

Closest I come to adhesives expert is being expert at either sticking fingers together, or burning myself with the glue gun.

Do I apply that with an acid brush ?

YOu could.
I just do some figure 8s using gravity out of the tube, then use sanding block to spread it around paper and block, then lift and reseat paper until it adheres strong enough.

Really hard to get off skin. Kind of a messy product. Keep tip clean and reinforce the original box for storage and make sure it does not get direct sunlight. A little goes pretty far.

With 77, one might be able to be peel off the sandpaper from the sand block in tiny pieces uttering a curse every time it rips, while the the 3M Super 90 would induce fits of rage and a sanding block launched into the nearest circular file.

The key for this application is to be able to easily remove wornout sandpaper and adhere new, not attach sandpaper permanently.
And the 3M feathering disc adhesive was designed for this task.

Using it is much superior to folding sandpaper over a block with no adhesive. The new sandpapers with the somewhat sticky backs is certainly an improvement, and the 3m FDA works nicely with it, often requiring no application of more product after peeling off the old worn out sandpaper.

OK good points. With 77, I just lightly spray one surface only. Don't recall a problem with removal. 90 does form much stronger bonds.

Never heard of feathering adhesive before. Just learned something. Thanks!

I'll give the 77 a try on a wood sanding block, I have some on hand.

My exposure in this regard was first to 3M Feathering disc adhesive and the 'Tacky' product when making surfboards 25 years ago. Use it on an 8 inch pad on a 2800 rpm sander/polisher, and switch paper grits often.

Helps to have a warm pad for removal.

Not a spray. Spread on paper and lift and set until it sticks firm enough.

This stuff seems to last for more sheets of sandpaper/ go further, but causes more build up on the sanding pad.

Wow, I had forgotten all about that stuff. We used it in my uncle's body shop back in the 70's before you could buy the self stick rolls.
