Are we entering a period of "goods" shortages?

There are different depreciation rules for different businesses and assets, but the general rule is that an asset has a stated life expectancy and it is depreciated on a percentage basis each year until it reaches zero. The depreciation is deducted from the gross income each year as a cost of doing business, thus reducing your income tax liability.
Right, which is the purchase price and its life expectancy fraction of the year. You cannot deduct beyond the purchase price so tearing down a building to deduct tax makes no sense, unless you cannot use it / it is useless to begin with.

In 1999 just after Christmas the wife, children, and I stayed at a top (at the time) oceanfront resort outside of Cancun. Marble and granite bathrooms (which was pricey at the time), just everything top shelf. Food was all inclusive, lavish spread of high end dishes. Booze was name brand.

I could not comprehend how they could offer this much high end for such a reasonable price. I was told they were not overly interested in profit margins........ the resort(s) were shell companies for the drug/ criminal cartels.
Basically Cabos and Cancun are both founded as a laundering capital for that. The same for how Bermuda and Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Switzerland etc started as poor nations and ended up as "financial hubs". They might not be drug related but they are controlled and invested by non mom and pop economies.

Apparently Best Buy never got the memo about electronics/chip “shortages” 😄. Stopped in today and couldn’t believe how massively stocked everything was. TVs, large appliances, small appliances, computers, etc.

My understanding is, there have been efforts to move the goods off the shipping containers and get them to their destinations.
It's a good thing.

My microwave hood went bust last month. Home Depot told me to wait up to Jan 24th on some model or buy $399 or more to get free shipping. Best Buy has something in stock for within 1 hour no shipping. I think they are the new Sears or IKEA, where you can pick up right after paying.

Yeah and I am unsure if Apple has always been this way, having a number of Apple products I have never seen this before, I do know companies have been hiring/buying airfreight liners and flying products directly to the USA. I got this tracking info starting in China for a Apple product I ordered for my wife's Christmas present.
Maybe just the fact that it is shipping directly shows low stock in the USA? It is the new Series 7 watch, maybe why ...
