Are Mazda filters still made by Tennex?

Mazda filters used to say Tennex on them but now they don't. Does anyone know if they are still made by the same company and if not, by who?

thanks,
James

Tennex was purchased by Mahle some time ago. I am not sure if this accounts for the change in the Mazda filter design or if Mazda has changed suppliers. The dealer part# for the filter has changed. I believe this was done to eliminate the short and long Mazda filters into a single part #.

I always used the longer filter on my Protege. The new filter is slightly smaller in diameter and length. I tend to favor the Tennex version. You're correct there is no reference to Tennex (or Mahle) on the new filters.

Thanks for the welcome.

I was a fan of the old Tennex filters. There's some German writing on the new cans so I guess that's a clue. The fact that the small filter has gotten even smaller has made me a little uncomfortable so I'm gonna start buying the longer one for my MX-6 turbo.

Here's a tidbit I found when my stock of the Tennex B6Y2 14 302 started running low " just 6 left ".

The Kia filter for the Rio's # 26300 - 2Y500 are 1/2 in longer and seem to be a heavier constructed filter than the old Tennex was and price is 3.59 when 5 or more are purchased . Worked great for me through analysis and not hearing any top end noise on cold starts . Use these at your own risk though even though the Rio and Miata blocks are the same .

On one Mazda we have here the bottom end is worn a bit so I run a little heavier oil than normally in it and the even larger Supertech ST-3593A and Fram 3593 works well on that motor . Popped the best UOA ever on that car with the Fram

I will look into the Kia oil filter. The Sportage engine is from the same FE family as the engine in my MX-6. The Sportage just has a 14mm lower deck height, 8mm less crank stroke, 6.5mm shorter rods, and a DOHC 16v head, among other things...But the block architecture is the same (you can stroke a Kia Sportage using a 2.2 crank out of a MX-6 or Probe). But I'm getting off topic...Thanks for reminding me of another option.
