Are battery prices dropping?

I was at academy today and saw they had group 24 batteries for like $100, then for giggles I looked up the cost for a group 65 for my diesel truck and it was like $140ea. Last time I needed batteries it was almost $500 for two of them for my truck.

The WM value ones inched up from $49 to $69 but have stayed steady there for the last year.

IMO the other parts stores are charging a stupid markup. They answer the phone "Advance auto parts and batteries", that's all I need to know.

Incidentally I'm quite fond of said value batteries... used several group 24 and 65s. Go for it, you'll have a spare anyway, LOL.

Was thinking about using those interstates in my truck. That group 24 looked the same size as the one in my truck. Higher reserve capacity too and $99

Those sound like a good buy. More expensive batteries are often the same black box with a different sticker and warranty anyway.

I recently needed a new battery for the wife's 2016 Mazda CX-5. For the "good" battery, Autozone and Advanced Auto wanted close to $250. My local BJ's Wholesale had an Interstate Gold for $125.

I think the recent economy has encouraged companies to price gouge since there is no "normal pricing" anymore.

I think you're right. It's just all the local auto parts stores that have outrageous prices. Guess I should have looked around more.

I work at Advance Auto Parts and I'm embarrassed by our prices for batteries. They haven't gone down at all, in fact they went up $10 across the board about a month and a half ago. Right now the Silvers are $200, Golds are $220, Platinum flooded is $250, and AGMs vary but most are around $260.

I just bought a Costco Interstate comparable to our Diehard Gold for $110 today. Literally half price.

Yeah I had no idea the parts stores were double the price as anywhere else. Those duralasts from autozone are junk. I just keep warrantying them out. Lol

Not much value there.
The question for the purchaser is "How much is paying for the name 'Diehard' worth?"
Even NAPA is substantially cheaper.

I just bought a battery for the wife's Mazda . I checked O'Reilly which is where the old battery came from . HARD NO ! Nearly $200 . I went across the street to Walmart and got a 3yr Free replacement 750 CCA battery for $150 .
