I'm just starting out with some TLC for a low mile but neglected Arctic Cat ATV. I am still waiting to get the stats, year, make, model & engine size. I do know the machine is currently out in a U.P. of MI snowbank with a dead battery. I'd guess it's a 6 yr old with under 700 miles, maybe a 550cc.

The thought is, service it & move it to a garage at our camp. It will be out of the weather there. I do know it needs a battery. I was thinking of waltzing into the local Arctic Cat dealer, but maybe I can get a battery just as good for half the price? After that I will do the engine oil & whatever differentials it has.

The machine is 6 hours away & once I get the model specifics I can go forward with the battery, filter & engine oil. I'll keep my Honda & Yamaha bias at bay. Just looking for advice to get started. When I track down more model info, I will post it. Thanks.

I think the back page of the walmart battery selector has bike and ATV batteries. You can see if there's any consistency if you want to take a good guess.

They'll probably be the type you have to add acid to and charge; you could rig something up with your cigarette lighter to charge it on your 6 hour road trip.

Batteries + Acid??? + FIRE!!!
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING OF MAN?

Some of A/cat's batteries are kind of unique. Can be tuff to find locally other than from a dealer. Our dealer fills, soaks and charges the new battery, so it is ready to run. Online you may be able to find an AGM/sealed upgrade as apposed to a oem flooded type. Find the model on your dead battery, 14AA2 is an example. Find a replacement that crosses over and enjoy...use a tender for the storage times or none of them last very long..

Thanks, it may take a bit to get the model information so I can go forward. I want to be sure I get accurate model information, so I get the correct battery & oil filter size. I will check out that AGM cross reference.

I use pigtails & a battery tender at times on my own machines. This will be kept at a camp with limited power, so I may not put one on. Also the guys on-site don't really do the tender thing, they just deal with dead batteries. I know, maybe it's conversion time.

I have moved several of my ATVs to AGM batteries and they do seem to be worth the extra dollars. I store a quad out in the country without power and this year bought me a solar battery tender made by Deltran. It is a fairly compact solar panel that I mounted on the side of the shed where the quad is. Haven't had it long enough to know if it will work at extending battery life, but I like the idea of it. Something like that may work well in your situation.

I bought the 5-watt model, Link here.

Thanks, still waiting to get the exact model info to go forward. I hope to be up there Mid May, & would like to set-up by then.

I have alot of quads, which means alot of batteries and I have had the best luck so far with DEKA bateries. I have one that is over 4 years old, which is unheard of in quad batteries. You can buy the on Ebay and Advance Auto. They are gray with two terminal connections.
