I am familiar and have used Fluid Film as well as POR 15. I saw Advance Auto has a sale on Blaster Surface Prep and was planning on getting it. My air compressor died a few months back; I use Milwaukee M12/M18 tools so the compressor has not yet been replaced. I am looking at a Fortress Ultra Quiet unit from Harbor Freight.

I assume I need to get a spray wand such as the one sold by Woolwax or an HLVP gun (totally unfamiliar with these) as well as a compressor. What is the most cost effective way to get setup for the job, assuming I will do it once a year on two vehicles (Toyota and Lexus)?

Thanks!

I have the Woolwax gun setup from them directly. Cost is same or less than other places, very good quality. I order it and all my Woolwax straight from them so zon doesn't get a cut, same prices and free shipping over a certain dollar amount, think $50. The spray gun is made by Kellsport who is the parent company of Woolwax and Fluid Film. I like the Woolwax as it is thicker and lasts a very long time. I treated 3 of my vehicles 3 years ago and it still is holding up extremely well. I only need to touch up minor areas, around the wheels every now and then. Not sure about the Blaster stuff but I'd choose Woolwax anyday of the week. I used black so you can see where you applied it and any wash areas.

The "blaster stuff" gets good reviews and its 80% off right now.

There have been a lot of complaints using Blaster, that due to clogging, many users report that they have been unable to totally use all the can's contents.

I was more talking the 1 and 5 gal containers for bulk use.

I did buy 5 of the cans to do a quicky job on my galvanized trailer (everything but the galvanized part)

Appreciate the thoughts. I definitely need a compressor though - correct?

Check the fluid film website. They say you can do airless type sprayers.

Check YouTube, lots of videos on there showing it being sprayed with those $30 electric paint spray guns.

May want/need to heat it up or cut it slightly with spirits if it’s really cold.

You also really want it inside of doors and in nooks and crannies. Not sure how you do that without a spray gun that has small wands.

Woolwax gun works great for me and the beauty is you don't have to clean it out, just disconnect the air line and throw it in a ziploc bag for next time use. The stuff doesn't harden or clog at all.

Krown and Fluid Film you can spray with air or airless spray guns.

Woolwax **MUST** be warmed, and quite frankly should be primed with some other liquid product to get the airless pump primed properly. If woolwax is not heated, the product has a hard time flowing up to the compression chamber of the airless sprayer and the sensor will just keep it running.

The spray quality is always better with airless. But an air spayer will vaporise it quite a bit more.
