Anyone used 3M Marine Ultra Perf. Paste wax? Is my can bad?

Hey all,

I have been buffing and waxing on my Ultra 150 Jetski (gelcoat) to get it rehabbed and looking showroom new (it is working great). I have washed it and been over the entire thing with 3M Marine Finesse-It II (best choice since my oxidation and scratches were very light if any) and I wanted to top it off with another 3M product.

Only place that stocks this kind of stuff around here is Wal-Mart (yeah I hate it) and all they had were 2 cans of the 3M Marine Ultra performance paste wax. Both cans were damaged. I picked the one that still looked like it had a seal, opened both cans and checked them. Both looked similar.

I haven't tried it yet and I dont' have much experience with paste waxes. Only Turtle wax (yes it sucks) and it is much "creamier" looking.

This 3M paste looks smooth and shiny (glistens in the can basically) and really does look like a paste like what you used in grade school (glue paste) and it is waxy looking, but it is still soft and oily. It has Naptha in it and I know it evaporate. I'm hoping this can is ok cause I know this is good stuff.

Does this sound dried out?


Also what are the pros/cons of a paste over a liquid? Seems like a liquid is the easy way out?

If they are damaged, I would take them back. Most 3m waxes are pretty rock hard, and you have to give your pad a squirt of quick detailer to make the application easier. For your information, the 3m show car paste wax is the same formula as the marine. You can also get it online from 3m, free shipping, all you do is pay sales tax. Other than that, I think your making the best choice with products(especially the finesse it 2)

Thanks for the information Honda. The Finesse-It II is amazing. I looked at their entire marine line and chose it. I think I made the right choice the others were just more aggresive than I needed. The finesse it II lacks a UV protectant I think that is why I am topping it off with another 3M product (the marine wax) that has a UV blocker in it. The can was just dented up. the seal was pretty much intact. And yes this wax is a lot harder than the can of paste turtle wax I had along time ago. I like I said it was much "creamier" like

The finesse it 2 is an actual polish(aggressive) that has no sealing or protective properties. You must follow it with a wax. Imo, use the 3m wax to top it(make sure you wet your pad down with some qd, and youll be all set. Btw, I noticed you posted this on pwctoday also(your slov on there i assume). Seth, try some out. As long as it spreads easily it should be fine. I used to use the same wax on my boat hull before I painted it. BTW, did the PM I sent you help any? -Joe
