I am a very big fan of El Paso. Always enjoy my time spent in El Paso, wish my Wife would consider El Paso.

A recently released video by Nick Johnson, a youtuber with 1 million followers. Nick is a native of Southern California, and does videos visiting towns and states all across America. Nick has a very dry sense of humor.

Nick expected to hate El Paso. He was surprised. One stat, El Paso on many scales identifies El Paso as in the top three safest city in the US. No homeless people, city is very clean. Very family oriented city.

For those that don't want to watch the entire video- a little light hearted situation of Nick running out of money and having to figure out how to get .40 cents to cross the border at 29:27 in the video.

You forgot dust.

On the flip side, no earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes. Not much grass or trees to trim. No snow to shovel.
Oh yeah. How could I miss that. Not sure what is worse El Paso or Yuma. Though my buddy who was Super Cobra pilot and spent quite some time in Yuma, said: “it is ok, but I was looking forward to deployment to Iraq.” 😂

Working occasionaly in El Paso for the past 30 years, I found El Paso to be the number one location to purchase rust free domestic used auto parts. No other location comes close on a MACRO basis. Huge amount of salvage yards in El Paso.

In Phoenix I often had success with rust free domestic auto parts, but no where near the success found in El Paso. Unlike Phoenix which has many salavge yards with a percentage of vehicles prior life in the salty north, El Paso had very few vehicles from outside their region in their salvage yards.

One of my many finds in El Paso salavage yards were 2000-2005 Pontiac Bonneville fuel lines and brake lines. When I pulled the lines, they looked like they just came out of the factory. Not as single sign of rust or corrossion.

When I got to the coast of Viet Nam all the guys were complaining about the HOT HUMID weather……I was from Houston. It made me homesick!

Has this changed recently? It seems like I was hearing and seeing mews casts more or less saying that El Paso isn't as safe nor what it used to be. Maybe in certain areas? I will say I think it was El Paso where my dad and I stopped in at a Mexican Bbq restaurant and it was surprisingly good.

Glad you had a good meal in El Paso. I am currently eating Sunday Dinner in a Gordon Ramsey restaurant and am not fairing as well as your dad and you did in El Paso.

I have been in and out of El Paso for over 20 years. Not once did I ever feel unsafe. My last night I spent in El Paso was 3 JAN 2025. I have parked vehicles at the El Paso airport, often for extended times, never once an issue. In comparison, vehicle break ins at Denver International Airport are very common.

I have taken two Greyhound buses into El Paso over the last nine months, arrived after dark, zero issues at the bus station.

My micro assessment concurs with the national crime statistics, El Paso is one of the safest cities in the USA.

I traveled to El Paso quite a few times for work. Good food, both Mexican and BBQ, so it covered my 2 favorite cuisines perfectly.
Also had the best chicken fried steak I've ever eaten and some nice steakhouse. I love chicken fried steak.

Also loved Chico's Tacos, Fast food but man were they good.

I can't speak to housing because I never considered moving there, but I've been there when it was 103 outside at noon and when it was 30 degrees and snowing at noon. I honestly do not ever remember it raining during one of my trips and I spent 2 consecutive weeks there several times and one 3 consecutive week trip. The day it snowed was a treat, everyone was very excited because it is apparently very rare there.

It seemed like a lazy little town. I liked it.

After the plant I worked out of shut down, the company asked me if I would reconsider moving to El Paso to the sister plant located there. I declined as I had JUST gone though a divorce and bought a new house. I liked the house I bought and I didn't need my ex wife throwing some kind of fit because even though she didn't necessarily have traditional visitation rights (our daughter wasn't far from 18 at the time) I'd spent more than enough money and time buying my freedom from her to give her any reason to cost me a single more dollar.

Dry. I like the dry.

And yes, it seemed like everybody I met was extremely nice.
