Anyone knows avout this pre-luber ECM?

According to the site's FAQs, the pump keeps pumping the entire 30 seconds but if the pressure exceeds 55 psi, the oil will bypass (i.e. - it won't pump anything but the pump keeps running). This keeps the electronics relatively simple.

Those pumps look really nice, and the entire setup seems like it would work very well. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the pump staying on the entire 30 seconds.

If it bothers you, you could buy just the pump, not the ECM and hook up a toggle switch to turn the pump on and off. You could also add a relay switch triggered by your car's oil pressure switch that turns the pump on and off with the oil light.

Wired correctly it will also kick in when oil pressure drops to low during hot engine idle !
But these pumps are only for intermittend use.

I bought one in Germany for 100 Euro, but still have to build it together with checkvalve, pressure switch and TP bypass filter !

I am not sure about using unfiltered oil from the sump so I am looking for a small inline filter to keep back the "larger" chunks (> 35 um).
Placed at the pump output it will also prevent wear particles from the brass gears to enter the engine.

I've had my Shur-Flo pump on my car for two years now, and it still works fine. I'd guess that as long as the electrical motor doesn't see excessive heat, it should be fine. It doesn't stay running for very long, so the total amount of hours on the motor will be low.
 
Has anyone taken one apart or just know what kind of electric motor it is? A brushless AC motor with an AC/DC converter would last practically forever.


Of course, the prelube pump probably sees only a few hours of operation per year. I agree that any electric motor with even a mediocre quality and design should last indefinitely with that small amount of usage.
 
I did not take the motor apart but it must be a DC motor with brushes as they do warn that it can spark and should not be used in the presence of flammable vapours.
But it looks (and feels) very heavy.
This type of motor is also used for the screen wipers and these do last very long.
