Anyone know of any good traffic attorney's in NYC?

I received a citation for a "No left turn M-F 10am-6pm" on 46th St. and Madison Ave. in NYC. Even though the sign was there, I was unfamiliar with driving in that area and did not notice it.

Even though the 2 points don't transfer over to my MD driver's license, the out of state violation will appear on my MD driving record for 3 years. As of now, my record is clean and I would like to intend to keep it that way.

Does anyone know if my Insurance premium will go up for this out of state violation?

You can argue the case yourself. Check to see that the sign was in the right place by reviewing placement standards at ASHTO, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials.

Judges tend to assume that the highway sign standards have been properly interpreted and applied, but you may find some wiggle room in there.

Good luck.

NYC is notorious for that kind of stuff. My father was down there with my sister and parked in one of those areas where there is a machine and you have to purchase a ticket and display it. Well he came back and his car was gone. He asked a meter maid about this and she said it was a no parking zone on such and such a day at such and such a time and she was really sorry that there weren't any signs saying this, but it was the law. It cost him something like $200 by the time he found his car and got it back.

You could probably fight your ticket in court, but I suspect it wouldn't be worth the hassle, time, and money. You might just try showing up and pleading if you can get traffic court. Act sorry and polite, and be honest, and you might luck out and get a judge having a good day who will drop it with a warning. Your best bet with that sort of thing is usually with the cop who first pulls you over. Plead your case honestly and politely and you never know, you might get off.

Plea bargain it yourself to an equipment or parking violation. NYC will get to keep the whole fine, instead of having to split a portion with NY State. In my county, the DA handles plea bargains. Got my wife's failure to yield right-of-way reduced to "Parking on Pavement", or some such animal - no points, smaller fine, no surcharge. The DA may ask to see clean DMV record.

NYC has a fair amount of traffic cases already tying up the courts. If they can get your money easily and without a fight, they'll probably go for it.

That stinks. In that case, I think you'll be wasting your money with a lawyer, since it sounds like the violation actually occurred (and they're expensive).

Another tactic that worked for my father in a similar situation (out of area, not NYC), was writing the judge, explaining the circumstances, and asking for a dismissal. You're already looking at a probable Guilty verdict, IMO, so I don't think you have much to lose.

This is New York City were talking about. "forgedddahh about it"

The lawyer costs between $125. The violation is $130. If he gets me off, I'm out of roughly $125 with a not guilty and clean record.

The lawyer will be walking into court with a Not Guilty plea. From what I understand, there are 4 good judges and 4 bad judges in Manhattan. The lawyer will try to go in front of the "good" judge that they know.

Too true, probably. Of course, Baltimore's no picnic either.

They even have Fake School Zones set up so they can legally give out camera tickets.

Thanks. Most of the attorney's I spoke with said they'll go to Court by themselves.

He is not going to get u off. A ticket in NYC will probably go down as guilty especially being from out of state. As a NYC resident u might as well save ur money and pay

Isn't that like extortion? No sign at all and you still get a ticket?

Will an out of state ticket increase my Insurance premium? I have Geico.

The out of state points don't transfer over but the violation will stay on my record for 3 years.
