Anyone in the Maryland/DC/Viriginia/NC/SC area notice anything strange about the rain?

I live in Hampton Roads Va.

In the last few weeks since the NC/SC Wildfires the rain has been leaving behind greyish/white dirt like residue behind on cars and I'm wondering if anyone could identify what it is and if it will damage the paint. I washed a couple of weeks ago to get rid of any salt on the under carriage and now I washed a second time to rid the car of the white residue.
It's residual ash from the fires. The ash and snoke mix with the moisture droplets in the clouds. When the rain evaporates off it leaves behind the residue. It's not as bad as volcanic ash but isn't great for your paint.

I change my vehicles engine and cabin air filters every 20,000 miles. The ones in it now only have 3,000 miles on them. But when this finally stops happening, I'm going to seriously consider changing them very soon.

I live in Pennsylvania, but work in Maryland. My truck is covered in that dust that went through and then rained on top of it. Looks just like the photos posted.

Thanks for the help getting to the bottom of things guys, I was starting to worry because this is the second storm that has done this.

Pollen is high too. It's probably a "both" and not "either/or" type answer.

l live in New Mexico, dust gets into every crack/crevis. That is NOT dust from NM. I'm no meteorologist . Just my opinion. I would contact the local University.
Dust goes up in air.. dust combines with moisture.. dust comes down as mud.. the end. How exactly do I contact a local university and ask about rain? 😂

Could also be residue from the fires.. or pollen. Before I wasted time beyond searching the internet I would just wash my car...

Frustrating that it doesn't want to come off the glass using some Rain-X washer fluid and brand new wipers. I guess I'm breaking out the Windex again.

I used to live there. Is Hampton still a toilet?
Dust is being blown from new Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma dust bowl style all the way to the east coast.
I'm in New Mexico it's rained mud 3 times this year. Raining mud isn't unusual, raining mud 3 times in 2 months is.
