Anyone in the Maryland/DC/Viriginia/NC/SC area notice anything strange about the rain?

I live in Hampton Roads Va.

In the last few weeks since the NC/SC Wildfires the rain has been leaving behind greyish/white dirt like residue behind on cars and I'm wondering if anyone could identify what it is and if it will damage the paint. I washed a couple of weeks ago to get rid of any salt on the under carriage and now I washed a second time to rid the car of the white residue.

Same here...brown and white like ash...nasty stuff...

He'res a close up. My Buddy in Va Beach thinks it's acid rain from the fires.

Weird Rain Residue.webp

I never thought about the fires but I have a new car and it's polluted like yours.

Get a piece of blue litmus paper.
Dampen a small sponge with DI water and give an effected area a long wipe, gathering as much as you can.
Close the sponge on the litmus paper and see if it turns red.

Does not wood ash fill air filters quickly. I've no data.

I noticed the same thing on my dark blue car..I thought it was pollen at first. I would be curious to know what the Ph of the rain is.

yep we had mud rain here.. and I've never seen the highways with so much dust flying up when semi's go past.
