Anyone have any experiece with Autozone remanned transmissions?

Poor lightning, but here's a picture of the dipstick. Looks like Mercon V or LV. Cherry Red and thin.

Neither Mercon V or Mercon LV will harm a 4T65E, It likely has a Dex/Merc fluid as it's usually the cheapest bulk available.

You could be smelling paint if they painted the case.....The exhaust crossover is quite close to the bellhousing. But definitely look it over for leaks!!

A TransGo SK shift kit usually cures Accumulator problems, I can't imagine a builder not installing a SK kit in a 4T65E?

The harsh "Garage Shifts" have me concerned & could very well be a PCS/EPC or Line Pressure control issue.....The only way to KNOW is with a Pressure Gauge!!

Have you contacted the shop that built the unit?

Yes I left a message yesterday. He opens shop in a couple hours. I also noticed the harsh garage shifts go away once the engine/transmission have warmed up.

EDIT: Due to the lack of check engine light he thinks the valve body is sticking. He wants me to try an additive to slicken up the fluid which I assume to avoid tearing into the transmission right off the bat. We'll see how it goes.

The garage shifts and harsh 1-2 shift stopped this morning but we still added the additive. He said it would take 50 miles for it to take effect but it appears the offending valve has unstuck itself. If it comes back he said to call him.

Looks like I'm taking it back again. We got loads of rain today and I noticed this:

It appears one of my trans cooler lines wasn't seated properly or may be leaking from the crimped portion.

And yes I checked my transmission fluid it's slightly lower than it was on Monday.

If a Cooler Line wasn't seated....It would blow off!!

Leaks at the rubber hose crimps is VERY common, The aluminum crimps can be cut off by carefully splitting them with a 3" cut-off wheel, Buy some trans oil cooler hose & repair them......I personally use Ear Clamps so not to damage the hose.

Except for Mercon SP which is ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid, Mercon V and Mercon build off the Dexron III spec and D-VI interchanges with M-LV.

I’m inclined to agree with Cline you have a leaky line or the mechanic forgot to replace an O-ring on the fittings - I’d replace the line myself, I’ve seen on GM trucks they have a tendency to weep as they get old.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lubeguard is used as additive. It’s to tranny rebuilders as MSG is to Asian cooks.

Well I didn't have a serious leak before it was rebuilt. The only leak I had was the side cover and pan gasket.

Like I stated after getting the car back I noticed the smell of fresh transmission fluid and now this so I'm assuming that the line pressure issue made my leak worse.

Last weekend when me and my buddy were working on the control arm bushings he Mentioned something about a leak. When I grilled him in it last night he says he noticed a few drops of reddish brown fluid and that the line didn't look in bad shape as far as the rubber and steel crimped portion go.

The only thing that upsets me is I tried to tell this shop owner that my transmission fluid was low on Monday and he just shrugged me off. Hopefully he'll listen now.

Can't get to the car until next week. I'm the mean time I'm topping off the trans fluid myself and checking the cooler lines myself.

Turns out the trans pan gasket isn't tightened down enough. After putting it on jack stands fluid leaked out in a couple spots.

I forgot to mention the issue with the vent tube is still persistent. After reading an forum post on cartalk I believe the issue is going to be the vent tube is clogged up. Possibly hornets nest after sitting for 3 years.

He still hasn't called back yet. I'll be sure to inform him of everything when he does.

Just called him today. He's going to check for the leak and also told me there's no vent issues, my dipstick bracket is broken which caused a leak.

Picked up an ac Delco dipstick tube for the trans for just under $21. I'm having the transmission shop install it so I don't void my warranty and so I don't seem like an ass who questions this guy's work constantly.
