Anyone frequent the local library?

Leo99: I help a older gentleman and we both volunteer at the local county food bank and he delivers stuff to food banks, homeless shelters. I service his Saturn wagon. I also like good novels and history

Haven't been in one since the late 60's when I was a kid. Maybe when I retire.

Yes , I go at least once a week. I rarely take out books these days. Instead, I take out books on CDs. I listen to them whilst I drive, providing conditions permit. I did over 48K miles last yr. I borrow on line in a network of area libraries. Once I reserve, and the BoCD is returned to a library. It is then couriered to my local branch.

I go to the library more often than I go to the service station. I belong to 2 libraries, the local district one, which gives me access to this town library and in 3 other towns, and also the nearest city library which gives me access to another half a dozen. The city library is online, and I have a Kobo, so can get books 24/7. I have a house, garage and sleepout full of books, have curbed my addiction and only go to the library to sate my appetite for reading.

I usually use the library on the campus where I work. There are plenty of novels and short story collections old and new. The public libraries in my parish (a "county," in more civilized states) have undergone renovations that leave them looking like the iPhone store or the bridge of the Enterprise in J.J. Abrams's new Star Trek movies, and they have plenty of new books; but just try to find something published before 1995.

The main public library downtown, where I pretty much grew up, is infested with homeless people who are busy talking to themselves. Not much fun to go there any more.

Our county library is very good - great online system, books on tape, kindle, and new books. You can reserve books and have them waiting for you when you get there. For new books you get on a waiting list - popular new books have a long waiting list. But you cant beat the price, free!

My local library is very nice, and the county's website is excellent. You can search the full inventory, request holds and transfers, renew online, etc. It's pretty nice to place a few holds, get an email saying the books are ready a few days later, swing by and pick them up from a special alphabetized shelf, and be on your way in about 2 minutes.

I could never imagine reading a digital book. I like holding it,turning the pages,looking at the artwork,etc. I love the way an old antique book smells too. Just like how I love holding and reading an actual newspaper. Same with music. I hate listening to digital music. Records (and cd's if that's the only way I can obtain a painfully rare piece of music) are the only way I listen to music. Holding the jacket and having the original cover art is part of the experience.
