anyone found a aftermarket air filter similar to honda oem?

Honda oil filters, the ones offered in the USA, are known to be same as common orange can Fram's. A nothing special filter, despite Honda branding. I haven't gone down the rabbit hole regarding the air filters, but there is nothing to indicate Honda air filters unique in any way.

I ain't no expert, but you're likely wrong about Honda's air filters. I'd love to hear more about how Honda sources/produces their engine and cabin air filters.

Regarding, the oil filters, I think there have been several manufacturers in the past few years, including Fram. Let's just say I stay away from the OEM oil filters, though I'm sure they're okay at a reasonable OCI if changing filter at each OC. But the Honda OEM air filters seem to have a better reputation.

By the way, the Honda oil filters are nice and cheap, something under $8 the last time I checked with a parts department.

Honda OEM air filters are unique in that they come lightly oiled (the aftermarket alternatives almost never do) which creates near perfect filtration from new, instead of having a loading period early on where the more open pores allow the majority of the dirt that they'll allow to pass in the first 10% of use. Honda filters have no early spike in passed through debris. Somebody posted a study here about this a couple years ago, not sure if I'll be able to find it again, but it was very conclusive.

I'd love to read that review...

What other air filters come oiled? If oiling provides such an amazing benefit, surely other air filters come likewise treated.

If you have the Acura Honda part #, you'll find there's a lot of interchange. Try going to College Hills Honda, they sell Honda parts including service parts at a decent discount. Go to the parts and accessories section and query by part number. Be sure to check shipping cost, it pays to get multiple items. They also sell the Honda 15400-PLM-A02 filter In bulk. Lots of discussion on these filters, but Honda warranties their engines with this filter.

I havent seen an aftermarket filter I like as much as the Honda, so I just keep one on the shelf from Bernardi.

If it's oiled the oiling is really sparse - there was no trace of oil in the sealed bag that was touching the pleats directly.

This was in for about 25K miles before the MM called for it to change.

The foam chunks were rodent damage from the front hood seal and the bee unfortunate early demise from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't have first hand experience but the Honda filter media material looks like PET?

All the aftermarket filters look similar but I'd personally go with Denso as they are an OEM:

What many people assume is that since Denso is the OEM supplier for Honda, the Denso brand air filter for the aftermarket is the same quality as the OEM part you get from the dealership parts counter.
I have owned a Honda for 20+ yrs and have over the years bought OEM dealership filter and aftermarket FRAM, Denso and other brand filters. One thing is certain, the quality of the Denso aftermarket air filter is quite noticeably NOT the same as the oem Honda filter. Less and shallower number of pleats and thinner material - is what I have noticed.

What people may forget is that when Denso makes a product exclusively for Honda - per Honda's specifications, they are likely a higher quality that the same part that they may make for the aftermarket - likely made to a lower price point.
That has been my experience. For air filters, go with OEM, better quality, assured airtight fit.

You're not wrong, Denso aftermarket is different from Denso OEM (insightful article/interview posted here recently). I think it is important to note that I stated that Denso is an OEM, not the OE part. As such, I would trust the quality of their parts more than other aftermarket offerings. Denso targets 85-90% of the OEM specs for their aftermarket parts according to the referenced article/interview, which IMO is more than "good enough" considering the lower price.
