I am beginning to loathe going to my job everyday. I have been with the company 10 years and they just hired a new guy in my dept for $2 bucks more per hour then I make! This is really getting to me and I am ready to walk. I just am beginning to see that my company doesn't look out for long time employees. Me thinks it may be time to graze elsewhere. Anyone else had it with their job? I know I should be thankful to have work but still...

I hate my job! My wife gives me the "you should be thankful" bit but you know, sometimes you feel the way you feel and that's it.

This has happened at a couple of my different jobs as well and I hear you...it just doesn't seem fair. I live in Michigan the #1 job loss and move-away state in America and if you have a job here no one considers leaving because they feel lucky to have one.

I lost a six-figure income job with company vehicle and which I had done for 12 years and was connfident with my education and crednetials that I could soon find another one. I busted my rear end looking for one in the same field and that was almost two years ago. My unemployment benefits are gone and now I am looking at very low paying jobs. Just my advice...keep it and ignore the politics and [censored] that comes with almost any jon nowadays.

I've had it with one job before (quick lube), but right now I would just be happy to have a regular paycheck, regardless of where it came from. I'm supposed to start work at one place next week, and should have already been working at another, but apparently there isn't enough work for me. They said that I'm hired, they just don't have anything for me to do. Great.

In the meantime, I'm doing odd jobs and hauling scrap metal. It sucks. Don't get me wrong, I love loading the truck up with metal and dumping it at the scrap yard for a few bucks, but finding enough metal (legally) to make a living off it is impossible. The odd jobs are not regular enough and high paying enough for me to make a living off them either.

My situation is somewhat affected by a legal issue I got myself into a few months ago. Had I not done that, I'd probably be fine as far as a job and finances right now, but I messed up, and I'm paying for it. If I knew my license wasn't in limbo, I'd apply anywhere, but now the commute is a big concern for me.

Keep in mind, it could always be worse. I have to tell myself that on a daily basis. If you can find something better, go for it, but don't give up your job for nothing. A paycheck is awesome, even if it sucks getting it.

There is nothing wrong with hating your job and/or feeling that you want to leave. It is what you do about it that is important.

Start looking elsewhere. This is what I did some time ago because I wasn't happy with the company I was working for and I found the job I'm in now and made the move while I took vacation from the other job.

I tried out the new company and really liked it so when I got back from vacation I gave my notice, knowing that they wouldn't make me work it and just pay me out as I had seen them do before.

Worked out great and I love the company I work for now. It's tiresome and stressful some days but I enjoy what I do and the company treats me pretty good and there are some perks. (Quiznos Corporate)

Life is too short not to love what you do!

Like stevie said, get your ducks in a row and make the move once everything is in place. You'll be glad you did.

I'm in the process of gathering credentials and experience so that when and if I feel like I want to jump ship, I'll be able to do so with options available. Things [censored] me off where I am, but you know that's just life. There is no perfect job, but there might be one better than what you have.

It also helps if you have a spouse with a job that could keep things afloat for a few months if necessary.

One of the most frustrating observations I've made over the years is that it's typically easier to come into a job with a higher salary than it is to get a raise as an existing employee. It's also easier to get small raises over the years than a single raise for a large amount, even if it amounts to less than the cumulative small raises.

At many places of employment:
you are gonna have to put up will bull [censored], politics and have to deal with some people you would like to kick their [censored]. But with this economy you have to be happy to have a good paying job. I am happy with my job and got a $10,000 raise last year so I plan on sticking around, luckily I work with some awesome people, very low stress environment.

I was called this past Thursday by my former boss offering me a position with the company, I politely declined but I could tell my former boss really wanted me to come back.

ONN: In most industries it makes sense to move around to something in the same field every 5 years maximum because if you were to stay at a company for like 10-15 years and then get let go it's very hard to find another job because employers look at it differently than if you have multiple jobs in the same field.

At least in my industry, they consider it to be "Experience" and not that you were board or couldn't stay with that company.

Something to think about as well, especially if you aren't union and aren't making a whack of cash those would be the exceptions in my opinion which add to the reason to stay.

I have been looking for a new job in my field but my line of work is not what it use to be in my area and the jobs are hard to find, which also ends up making me more stuck in my current job. I would really like to just quit without notice and let my wife float things for awhile. But I do understand that a paycheck is important so its a tough decision. Work just sucks I guess.

How do you know he's making $2 more? Is he doing the same job?
Why would the boss give him $2 more? Maybe time to talk to the boss ....

Yeah, I used to hate my job. But all the time I was grateful just to have a real job instead of short term contract work. Starting up in career #3 at 57 yrs old wasn't fun. Since I have been put on happy pills. I just look at the bright side of things. I missed 3 months of work last year due to my breast cancer adventure. The office folk put me on unofficial light duty and accomodated my treatment schedule. My short term disability went through smoothly. Better living through chemistry. I've gone from hating the product to loving my job for its social benefits. I work for an outfit that is nearly 150 yrs old and is too big to fail.. Guys work into their 70s.One recent retiree had 43 yrs working for the company. The work is easy compared to previous careers in construction. Trouble shooting a system is fun once you have nailed the trouble. There is no agism, if anything, mature workers are favored.

My job is very stressful, I put a lot of hours in (55+/week) and at times it can be overwhelming. The pay is good and I am very fortunate to have it - something a lot of people don't have right now.

It's easy to complain about it, but the truth is that any job will have stress associated with it - it's all in how you handle it.

My wife got hired and then the next year a new hire was making more than her. She took it up with her boss, and they fixed it...

Don't assume that anyone knows truly what is going on...

Im 64 now, was 24 in 1970, home from Viet Nam then, after many jobs over the years, I should have stayed in the military. I wasnt in the mood then to stay, to immature. Those were crazy times. Ive been a salesman, a maintenance person, credit sales mgr, and finally settled on HVAC before I took early retirement and I got bored with that. Now Im a expeditor delivering parts all over the US and having a blast. No bosses, take time off when I want, and no one to say when and so on.

I have a good job, just for someone else.

Lots of things to like - decent pay, good holidays, pleasant folks and work environment ... but I find it sucks the life out of me mostly. But it seems fickle and petty to complain so I try to suck it up and carry on.
