Carpentry is one of my hobbies and I tend to buy tools that I don't always have an immediate use for. They always get used at some point eventually and it's nice to not have to go and buy another tool when im in the middle of building something. Does anyone else do this or am I just crazy? well........ I already know I'm crazy but that is beside the point:)

Have any more silly questions?

I've bought plenty of tools I had no "immediate" use for, but sooner or later I needed them and I was glad to have them.

If i see something usefull ill buy it. I used to go to the pawn shops and buy all the name brand tools i could afford. I was getting snap on,mac,sk etc for $1 a tool. Lately they have raised the price to near new prices.

Did the same thing for years - one time they even gave me a huge pair of channel locks they had priced at a dollar. New owners changed prices so now it's "Harbor Freight."

I'm getting more involved in woodworking as the years go by and I spend too much time on Craigslist buying things I don't need now, but probably will in the future. Buying used let's me sell it later if it turns out I don't need it, come close to breaking even. The real problem now is buying the occasional Unisaw or some other Delta or Powermatic tool that's selling cheap and buying it for resale. I'm sitting on too many right now, but they'll sell in the Spring.

Yep, I've done that. And been darned glad to have them when every other tool did not do what I needed to get done.

I have bought things from HF when I get coupons in the paper/ email etc. I have yet to use them, but ill be glad to have them when I need them. The Pittsburgh Pro seem to be of pretty decent quality.

Took me a while to figure this out, but Christmas time seems to be the best time to buy tools.. At least from Sears. Ill always keep an eye on the select few i feel i could use.

I get Sears gift cards from some family members...they go for nothing but tools. So, after every Christmas I'll be seen stalking the Sears tool depts.

I would venture to say that my tools have saved me about $200,000 in labor for home remodeling, finishing off my basements in 3 homes and auto, motorcycle and boat and OPE repair and maintenance over the past 40 years. Definitely worth it.

How about starting a "Tool Swap" section. You could list your tools you never use ,and swap them for ones you need.I know I have tools I haven't touched in years, but hate having to buy a tool I'll only use once in my lifetime.,,

Yes and it saved my bacon.

I got a pile of Ace Hardware wrenches from a yard sale for 50 cents. They were asking a buck but I pointed out some were missing.

Anyway then I owned two 14mm ones and when I had to adjust the valves on my mercedes I needed them both. Worse I had to grind one down to fit, but I didn't feel so bad about it!

Although I claim to be assembling a second "car kit" they all just bang around the garage. I enjoy having "beater tools" for stuff like brake line work where they wind up soaked in fluids and otherwise getting nasty.
