Just wondering if anyone has ever tried Star Tron? My 91 F150 5.0 seems to have water in fuel, starts running a little rough when tank gets down to 1/4 or so in tank. Runs fine after filling up. Any feedback on Star tron appreaciated. They make some big claims on their website.

My father swears by it. He had trouble with some OPE, took it to a shop, and they put some of this in the carb, and it started and has worked ever since. He bought a bottle and had the same success on two other pieces of OPE.

coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

I bought some when it first came out and put it into a car that does not see much use. The fuel pump failed on me... Coincidence? Id think so, but who knows that the solvents and enzymes do.

Id still use it.

I have been using it in my lawn mower and my Mazda3. As for any results I have seen:

Mower: Works great as a stabilizer for 87 octane 10% ethanol fuel.

Mazda3: Seems to be cleaning the tailpipe of my DI engine. The thick black carbon is slowly going away. I get good MPGs, but I cannot link that to startron at this point.

As for the solvents, I don't think there are any in star tron. It is just enzymes contained in fuel, nothing else.

I tried the Starton ethanol treatment, the Lucas ethanol treatment, and the Stabil ethanol treatment, and none of them got rid of all the E10 problems I was having with various fill-ups from local gas stations.

Stabil's ethanol treatment mitigated the E10's affects more the other two, but the other two also worked in some cases. However, my particular issues and needs are probably quite different from yours, so I don't know how much of this you should apply to your situation.

Honestly, I think any of the treatments that specifically state "does not contain alcohol" on the bottle will work for what you need them to do. The Stabil and the Startron are the only two I have seen that meet that requirement.

Don't let your meat loaf!

Why not just drop a can or 2 of dry gas in it and run it till almost E and then fill it up full. Do that for a couple of tanks and your water problems may be solved.

Although I think it may be a fuel pump vs water in the fuel. Gas floats on water and the pump sucks from the bottom of the tank so any water present would be sucked up first, then the real gasoline.

I can tell you, based on discussions on a boating forum, where a Star Tron Rep has participated, that the product was not intended to and cannot remove any large amounts of water. It will help with moisture in the fuel line but that is it. Its main function is to stabilize ethanol fuel. It is the main product used in boats which sit around a lot more than cars and have fuel vent systems open to the atmosphere.
I have used a product called E-Zorb which is a non alcohol based water remover [not cheap] that did work in a friends truck that had water issues. I have also had people that have said emulsifying water and sending it through the fuel system is not good for DI engines. I would be interested in any informed opinions on that statement.

The OP is running E10. Dry gas is not going to help. E10 pretty much amounts to a gallon of dry gas for every 10 gallons of fuel.

Startron is the best treatment for ethanol blended fuels I have used( storage and also to combat moisture ). I don't think it is going to fix your issue however.

I agree with the poster who said it sounds more like a mechanical issue( fuel pump )than a water issue. E10 basically has dry gas in it( as said above for every 10 gallons of fuel you get a gallon of ethanol which will act like dry gas )so it would take care of the problem if it was water after a couple fills. If it runs fine when full but runs rough when it gets down low then it sounds like the pump is dying to me or some other mechanical issue.

You might need to drop the tank and see what is going on.
