I want to change my filter, sice talking to a few people with similar experience I am inclined to believe the filter is causing the lifter tick, not the maxlife. It is a horizontally mounted filter... Is there any way to change the filter without losing half of the oil in my engine?

Your car takes the PF47... which is a fairly small filter, changing it should only make you lose 1/2 quart at the most... that's not half of the oil in your engine.

I have some extra and will top it off, no worries about that. I'm more concerned about how much is going to get lost. It isn't exactly an easy to access filter, especially with a oil catch pan under the car.

no. There isn't a bunch of oil in the head unless you have plugged oil return holes.

all i would say is "please cut open and take pics" when your done with it.

oil filters, especially napa golds, arent exactly expensive.. are you saying your cars not worth $6?? [censored] even my fairmont would get a brand new filter in your situation

Remove it when the engine is stone cold and almost nothing will spill out.

Change the filter first thing in the morning. The truth is in about 30 minutes there should be no measureable amount of oil in a clean cylinder head. You'll only have to replace the oil from the filter.

You won't lose much just changing the filter.
Change it, and top off as needed.
Your problem is probably the filter, not the Maxlife.
