Stuck in a Moment
Bad

My turning on to U2 was kinda funny. When their first album came out I couldn't figure why the local radion was so crazy about it, 'cause it sure didn't do anything for me.

Funny thing though, a few weeks later I suddenly thought they were great. I still do, and as the original poster says, I guess it has been over twenty years now.

I hate when people categorize u2 as a "rock band"...it's pretty normal commercial pop, imo.
a great rock band would be Pink Floyd, Deep purple or Rainbow, imo. or, in the modern days, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Black crows.

rock is not just guitars and jumping around...there's a lyrical side to rock, and u2's lyrics, especially since late 90's is just simple, pop lyrics now.

U2 was good when they started, and I liked them a lot in their early days: "one" is a great song, great lyrics. I like "new years' day", too...those songs had some substance...not anymore. they've turned into main stream pop for the i-pod crowd; commercialism & just "show" these days.

btw, why does Bono count "1,2,3, 14" in spanish in that vertigo song?

U2 is a great band, and they don't often let their success go to their heads.
I admire Bono for what he's doing aside from music. There was a segment about them on 60 Minutes last night.

I'll be seeing them in the GA section tomorrow night in NYC. 13th time I've gone to a U2 show in the past 20 years.

They get better as time goes by IMO.

I love U2, but I must agree with 97tBird; their lyrics of late are very “Foreigner” (as in Hot Blooded) simple. I’m glad they are still playing killer songs like Bad in their lineup.

97tbird: I agree that the more recent stuff isn't as good as their early stuff. "War" , "The Unforgettable Fire" , "Joshua Tree" etc.. are
classics. I feel the same way about the Rolling Stones. I also saw the 60 Minutes segment and I give Bono credit for being political without
bashing either party . I'll never buy another Springsteen, Don Henley or Mellencamp album since they are shrills for a particular political party.
