All in the title. My original steering rack is leaking and I'm not good enough (nor have the time or space) to rebuild it.

Rockauto has the following:

I don't think I'd go for the Edelmann or Terrepower, as they are approaching OEM.

There's also Fuji on FleaBay:

I don't know anything about Fuji racks.

Then, genuine Toyota for around $600.

I love that old lady, she just hit 300k miles, and I want to treat her well, but I have to be realistic. There are balljoints upcoming, which will be genuine Toyota for sure, so if an aftermarket rack can last me a few years-I'm game.

Thoughts ?
Thanks

Being a Yota guy here

Get aquatinted with Toyota or Lexus online dealers for parts

They’ll do sale pricing and free shipping…I use Bell Lexus in AZ

Previous sale was 20% off plus free shipping

Not impressed with Rock Auto…or especially Fleabay for serious parts

I did buy some Cardone HD CV axles from Summit for the ‘01 LC

So far so good…as the saying goes…’buy once/cry once’

Everything offered at Rock is better sold by the pound, it is junk. The Fuji peaks my interest but not almost 400 bones worth of interest. Go OE from an online dealer. My Favorite rebuilder was Jorgen (AKA JAC Rack) but they are long gone but they really rebuilt them properly with a nice stainless sleeve, I don't know of any other high quality rebuilder.

I know you're wanting to change it but I had a leaky rack in my Ranger and I used Blue devil in it and it didn't leak for 4 years and then got rid of it. No idea if it's the same good product but you can try it if you wish.

There is some labor in this job whether or not you do it yourself. I would most likely go with the Toyota part, and I would search for the best price on that. Otherwise, the cheapest Chinese product I could find and cross my fingers. I am not seeing any "intermediate" manufacturers here (like Moog) that I would want to stretch to. And I would thoroughly exhaust Amazon before buying this kind of thing on Rockauto. Good luck.

Wait for another sale at Serra Toyota and get an OEM remanned one. That's the only approach I would take and your 3rd gen is worth it!

Timmy the Toolman on YT has an excellent video for install.

A few suggestions online suggested Cardone or oem rebuilt steering racks from Steering Pros online.

Something to consider - in case the replacement is not ideal, look for a place that will rebuild your OEM rack and have it ready to use if the time comes.
