Any Real Failures With The Fusion GF35 Trans.

I have a friend that has this trans in his 2010 Fusion and has had some rough shifting problems. After a fluid change the shifting problems disapeared. Question: Is there any evidence this trans has a higher failure rate than the trans I have in my 07 Fusion. Aisin, I believe?

tig, I researched this issue a lot when we owned our '10 Fusion. We had a similar experience as your friend, sometimes the shifts were a little rough and other times a bit "erratic". There was definatley an improvement with a fluid change and I also added LG red. We traded ours in with only 44K miles(due to that and other issues). When it was traded in, it shifted no worse overall than when it was new. Actually, when new I thought the trans was bad because of the shifting characteristics.

However, I didn't come across but 1 or 2 complete trans failures. Although many people have under 100K, so it's tough to tell long-term if these trans can go to 200K plus.

edit: Apparently typing in "ford fusion transmission failure" in google does turn up a good bit of info. Here's one: Fusion 53K Trans Failure

Panthermike,
Thanks for the link. My friends Fusion has around 85K, and he drives a lot. His will be a test vehicle as he drives so much.

No problem. Also, not that it matters but I believe the trans code is "6F35". I imagine a good synthetic ATF will help, certainly won't hurt anything.

I agree. The aisin trans in my Fusion shifts very good. But are there more failures with the 6f35 trans? Erratic shifting would really bug me.

...Unfortunately 'erratic shifting' is common on many newer A/Ts.
My Chevy Cruze seems 'confused' at times and many have complained about it...

That should have the same transmission, just with GM badge on it.

The problem is the trans PROGRAMMING, not the trans itself.

Extremely platform specific.

A recent ragazine test scored the trans of one German marque way better than the other despite the exact same gearbox in both cars!

If it is the same transmission, I haven't heard of many failures.
I have read that it's more a 'programming' thing.
It is supposed to be an 'adaptive' A/T which adapts to the drivers driving style.
I will say that it has gotten better now that I have some miles on the car (12K).

My question with these so-called 'adaptive' tranny's is, what happens when several people (family members) drive the car....who does it adapt to?

This is what I've always wondered. My wife and I both drive our Fusion (has the 6F35) almost equally. I've always wondered how it can adapt when the driving patterns are always changing... I will say that the Redline D6 made the shift performance better. I'll be doing yearly drain/fills with the stuff.

It probably doesn't adapt and stays at stock setting. In my Mazda 3 that gets driven by my wife and myself there is no difference in shifts when I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery.
Now my wife mostly drives the car, so I'm curious if there will be any change when I have to disconnect the battery again.
