Any problems switching back and forth?

I run Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-40 in my Mitsubishi 6G72, and buy it from the local Chrysler dealer. Unfortunately, they're currently out of stock and I'm due for an oil change. The new stock is due to arrive in 3 weeks.

I decided not to switch brands, so I went for Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 that's SN rated.

Assuming just the base oils are different (PU being GTL and PP being hydrocracked) and the additive packages are similar - if I was to switch to PP when PU is not available, and then back to PU at the next oil change, would that really have any adverse affects?

The specifications are vastly different, but I thought sticking with Pennzoil instead of going to another brand and back to Pennzoil again was a better idea.

Should not have any problems using any brand oil. Exept oil usage might spike sometimes.

I've always bought oil based on availablity/price, unless I wind up with a stash good for several changes, every oil change can be a different brand. Over hundreds of thousands of miles doing this on several vehicles, it's never been a problem, I don't even think about it anymore. My only mandate is using good quality/proper viscosity oil, OCI's are very conservative as well.

I don't think I've ever used the same oil twice in my truck. Lol.

If anything, I would have kept the weights the same, and switched brands. Not that your oil will harm your vehicle but if you wanted a 40 weight, you probably should have just bought some other 40 weight.
