Just reading some old post talking about RL and seal issues, and I haven't heard this before. Ive used RL and stopped recently due to leaks showing up. I've had the rear cam seals replaced and have a oil cooler line still leaking and the turbo (both still minor). Thinking about using again just don't want more leaks.

I had m1 hm in the car, but the shop changed it to gtx against my wishes.

Maybe some history would help:

WHat vehicle, mileage, component, leaks where specificall, yetc?

A turbo is pretty tough on lubes and seals anyway.

I have never heard anyone having problems with seals while using Redline. Many tims seals are on their way out when esters start cleaning the sludge from the seals.

Red Line Oil does clean very well. So if you are having some leak issues then I would not use it. Otherwise it will clean out the gunk holding some holes together in your seals and you will experience new leaks. Stick with your High Mileage oil. Mobil 1 HM is really good. Or dino Castrol GTX HM is good as well.

I thought it was probably just cleaning action because the car is a 1996 Volvo 850 turbo with 226,000 + miles, but I ran across those old seal issue posts. Got me thinking.

Yes, our 2004 Saturn Vue (2.2l 4 cyl. engine--5w30 RL MO) and 1993 Escort (15w-50 MO) had severe oil usage issues with RL motor oils. Each of these vehicles used 2 quarts of of RL MO within 1,0000 mi. When I switched back to AMSOIL 10w30 XL MO for the Saturn Vue and 20W-50 Racing MO (ARO) for the Escort, the extremely high oil usage problem stopped.

This has NOTHING to do with seal issues.

I'd sue if I were you!

Castrol GTX is low-grade hair clipper oil compared to M1 HM.

On the flip side; How many use Redline to rejuvenate seals?
My 88 Accord started leaking at the valve seals about 7 years ago with the tell-tale occasional small to medium cloud of blue smoke on cold startup. I used Redline mostly to clean it up (from SF/SG oils). To my surprise, no more startup oil burning since; 25+K miles and 6+ years. I switched it to synthetic at the time and use 25-50% Redline for that slug of POE. No oil leaks in this cream puff beater.

I've used Red Line for at least nine of the twelve years I've owned this thing (and for ~ the last 95K mies of 135K total miles on it now).

NO visable leaks, nor oil burning/consumption to date!!
(Except a very little bit through the less than spectacular PCV system into the intake manifold, which I am remedying with an air/oil separator
