Any Mint.com users out there? I'm thinking about switching to it.
I've been using Microsoft Money for 10 years and am currently on 2005 Standard Edition. I've never used any of the online services or account synchronization features, so Microsoft's abandonment of Money hasn't been an issue for me.
My process is a manual one. I enter transactions for Cash, PayPal, Bank, and Credit Card accounts. Then, when a statement is received, I reconcile the transactions by matching the a) statement line item, b) entry in Money , and c) the receipt. It's a solid process, but it takes a fair amount of time. And there's always been a little bit on contention with my wife when I'm reconciling things and Money entries and/or receipts are missing and/or incorrect.
When entering transactions, we categorize them. I then use Money's "Income vs. Spending" report to monitor things and see how our "operations" relate to our budget. I usually export the report to Excel and then slice and dice from there. If I had the time I'd do this monthly, but more often than not it only happens a couple times a year. I am, however, pretty diligent about doing an end-of-year analysis.
So I'm torn between my tried-and-true process that takes some time and switching to Mint.com in hopes that I can "work smarter, not harder".
