My "new" bike uses a SRAM/Truvativ bottom bracket that calls for SKF LGHP2 grease. From SKF's data sheet, it's a NLGI 2 polyurea grease. Now, can I use any polyurea grease like Honda's urea grease, Park Polylube bike grease or Lucas Xtra HD grease can be insteaded for whichever sorceror's blood SRAM calls for?
I've used a lot of different bike specific greases in the past, and all at exorbanant prices! Phil Wood, Triflow synthetic, Park Polylube, Finishline Xtreme Fluoro (a favorite, but wayyy expensive). Some work better than others, but I suspect there might be lower cost options out there which work just as well as the fancy greases at lower prices (eg: triflow vs. superlube).
If you were to try and find a more generic grease to use for bicycle ball bearings what would you look for? And what greases come ot mind? I figure you really have three different applications of bearing grease in a...
Switching greases without some sort of application review is not a good practice. What's the application and operating environment? You will probably have compatibility issues with whatever grease you select so you should have some sort of transition plan.
most any nlgi 2 poly. grease can be used in place of the mentioned grease, though its good policy to flush/pump out the previous grease slowly until the new grease shows on seal lip, being careful not to blow out the seals on the bearing.
