Looks like your found the answer to your question. Look at what Toshiba is offering. An Intel i3 CPU is better than that AMD quad core unless your gaming which cheap laptops aren't good for anyhow. 12GB's vs 8GB's of ram won't make it noticeably faster. What matters most is the hard drive. Traditional mechanical hard drives are pathetic. 1366X768 resolution sucks. So in my opinion, lousy resolution coupled with a slow hard drive won't make for a good user experience.
I strongly prefer Intel if you can afford one, the instructions per clock on the Intel i3/i5 is much better than AMD resulting in faster performance.
A quick search shows this looks solid

If this 2015 laptop sucks then my 9-10 years old Dell Vostro 1000 with AMD processor and 1GB with Window XP is out of the park.
When I search something I need to wait about 10-15 seconds for the respond.
I'm pretty cheap when it comes to buying laptops...always get em used. The nicest one I ever bought was a Dell Precision M4500. Retail was $1700, bought it for $379 refurbished. It looked and runs like new, even came in a box so it looked new. Gave to my son for Christmas.
That being said, I do like AMD CPU's over Intel. The speed difference isn't noticeable and IMHO Intel has screwed buyers for way too long.
That being said, anything that cheap will not be great. I'm a Mac guy for personal use and if you can scrape the cash few PC's are better in the hardware department and none is better in the software department.
I just surf and order farm parts. Right now I have a Chrome Book but it runs out of gas with two windows and I would like more storage for photos and that's about it. The laptop the 901 Memphis mentioned seems like a a decent one. Thanks for the info and replies!

Yes it's got decent specs for the price including the 1080p resolution, good cpu power, lots of RAM and dedicated graphics even though they aren't super powerful it's better than integrated for certain things.
not only are intel cpu's faster, they are more efficient and put out less heat. very important in a laptop. not sure if you could get a quad core intel for $500. if going amd i would get an a10 at the least. but it all depends on how you use the laptop.
