Any experience with The Wax Shop Super Glaze

I have not been able to find the Collinite products around my area, but ran across a wax at Rural King called the 'The Wax Shop Super Glaze Liquid Wax'. Any experience using this wax?

My experience about 13 years ago:

Easy on/off (even in cooler weather) with strong solvent smell (this has probably changed).

Stains trim easily, not so easy to get off.

Shine is excellent but lasts only 2-3 weeks (black Mustang in the California sun)

Will remove light oxidation easily on light colors (yellow Corrado).

Not a great wax but acceptable, IMO.

I have used this wax for 15+ years and I am down to my last 2 bottles of it. It is my favorite wax of all time. Easy to apply and take off, leaves no white residue, and works great on black.
Be sure to shake it up real good before you use it.

I used this stuff a lot back in the day (1980's) when the Wax Shoppe was still family owned and based in Fullerton, CA. Oily is right, you could use the stuff in cold weather, even wax your car in a snow storm if you wanted to. The base was xylene and kerosene. Still, it worked well on black single stage paint.

Some years ago it was sold to Turtle Wax. I'm sure its not the same product as before, just the name remains. We tested it in The Wax Test back in 2001, didn't fare too well. Stains trim which is a huge demerit. Lots of much better products out there. I recommend you pass on Super Glaze.

I have been using Mothers wax for several years, but was wondering if I could find a better wax/paste to protect longer that I can find at the local stores. I have tried finding the Collinite, but have not had any luck in this area. Any others that are readily available that would do a better job than Mothers? Both of my vehicles are light in color, and I wax once in the spring and once in fall on both.

Yes, The Wax Shop was bought by Turtle Wax 2-3 years ago, that's why it can't be found locally for me anymore, it's still available a few places on the net. It does not last a long time, but I never had the experience with it staining my trim. It's more of a glaze than a wax. If you are carefull when you wax you shouldn't get any on trim anyways. If it did stain I'd just use some Mother's Back to Black on it...

Mother's lasts a pretty good while, it may be hard to find a longer lasting wax for the price...

I have always been concerned that Mothers 1 step wax having too much cleaner in it and if that could cause very light scratches if used too much? I thought it was more for a car that was only waxed once every several years. So I tried using only the 3rd step which is the pure wax in the 3 step wax process product that they have. I read somewhere on their site that if you had a light vehicle, that the 2nd step would not be as beneficial to you. However, I did not think that the 3rd step product lasted as long as the original cleaner/wax product that I was using. What is others thoughts on this?

I bought some at Big Lots ~ 4-5 years ago. My experience was identical to oily boyds. I would not recommend it unless it is < $2, and you refuse to spend $10 on a far more superior product.

There is no truth that using too much Mothers will cause scratches. If you see scratches it is technique not product.

Mothers 3 step system is:
1. paint cleaning
2. glaze for filling and gloss
3. carnuaba wax product

I do not know if step 3 lasts longer than their cleaner/wax. I have used step 3. It is very easy to apply but may not be considered as durable as synthetics in liquid form. I saw at least 6 to 8 weeks of decent protection but then I like that "waxed" look so I am not going to do nothing after 8 weeks but renew it (spray wax,etc).

Some seem to claim they do nothing for 6 months (no applying detailers, spray waxes, etc) but many are not being truthful. Others do not care as long as it does not seem to need washing. They are happy in any event.

from what I have been reading, cleaner waxes are probably the best bet for daily drivers to keep them looking good. you are always cleaning the paint and not removing very much clear coat so you should be good to go for the life of the car if using a cleaner wax every 3-4 months

Thanks for all of the advice. Being that our vehicles are garage kept, can that reduce the need for waxing from every 3 to 4 months to say every 6 months? I typically hand wash both vehicles once every 2 weeks, sometimes 1 week using Meg. Car Wash Soup.

Almost no store bought wax will last 6 months. They are products made to a price point, not a performance standard. If you want more durability, you're going to need to step up to polymer paint sealants like Zaino or Rejex. About the only long lasting wax out there is Collinite, but everything else lasts 6-8 weeks on average.

Wax as often as you want to but do not expect the protection to last months at a time. If you want to add a fresh coat of wax every month or so, that'll work fine.

Hand washing is good. Garage parking is good. Both will help maintain the looks of the cars and extend the life of the wax.

Since you like to "wax" twice a year, I'd recommend a light hand polish like the Mothers Step #1 pre wax cleaner or other comparable light polish. Used as directed, none of these products will damage or wear out your paint. They are mostly chemical cleaners with a little abrasive action meant for hand use (not for machine buffers).

This process will help reduce swirl marks, oxidation, clean the paint and prep it for the protective step. You can finish it off with a sealant like Zaino or a durable wax like Colllinite. For a boost between detail jobs use a spray wax or sealant that compliments the product you used. That's all there is to a basic detail.

Thanks for the advice. If I use Collinite 476, is this a cleaner/wax? Or does this need to have a cleaner applied before putting on the Collinite? From what I am hearing, this wax will last about 6 months, where the store bought only last 6 to 8 weeks.

Would I be good just using the Mother's Cleaner/Wax 3 times a year as opposed to 2 times?

Wax Shop is now owned by Turtle Wax. It's average at best. If you want quality step up to Mothers, Collinite, Duragloss or Zaino.

No, 476S is not a cleaner wax. It's a pure wax that offers protection only.

Yes, it needs a paint cleaner or polish to be used before it. That's why I recommended the Mothers Step #1 or similar product in my previous post.

I think 6 months is a stretch for any car care product, regardless of mfr claim and anecdotal evidence. Still, it does seem to hold up very well when compared to other waxes.

I think the Mothers product will be fine but its up to you. Usually my advice is to do a full detail once or twice a year, then wax every couple months to maintain. Since you have to deal with winter driving, a good paint cleaning/polishing come springtime will make a big difference in how good your car looks throughout the summer. Then, do it all again before winter to ensure max protection. Develop a good system and the whole process is easy and not too time consuming.

If you want a good, OTC cleaner wax, try Duragloss 101 (available at Carquest). It's very easy to use, will not stain trim, etc. If you need a stronger cleaner, you can try DG 501 (their Marine line).
