any benefit to larger oil capacity?

What are pros and cons to larger oil capacity? My truck only takes 4.5 which I thought was odd. Any thoughts?

Pro: longer oil service life (longer OCI possible)
Con: oil takes longer to warm up.

Cons also = higher cost to do an OC.

My BMW takes 6.5L of oil, and if you use synthetic, that costs $$$

Also, Pro: take longer to cool down, so that the oil temp is still high after parking for sometimes.

Larger Oil Filter Capacity and more oil in the sump = More Oil Filtering Media and oil staying cleaner for longer periods, in most cases. I try and run an extended drain filter and use it for 2 or 3 OCI's of 6K to 7K.

Depends how clean your engine is to run this combo or if you run this combo....then you may clean up your engine better.

Less sensitivity to running low or oil consumption.

My Diesel uses 15 Quarts, down a Quart or even 2, who cares?

Greater capacity = greater engine cooling. Yes, oil helps cool engine.

Conversely, slower warmup in cold weather.

Same priciple for ATF.

Deep pans are used in drag racing for engines and transmissions. This allows more margin , and less chance of overheating the fluid.
