Another Zinc question

Should've know that you would throw in your prized Valvoline there TallPaul!!!

One oil that I've looked at in the past, but is not available over here is Fuchs Titan GT 0w20. It does it without Zn and P IIRC, but if it were available here, it would be in the realm of $18 to $20 per liter. The ONLY redeeming grace on that price level (even for boutique freaks like me) is that is designed to be extended drain all of the way.

My main question is what was the levels of ZDDP PPM in oil BEFORE the changes? Is that 1000-1200 the most excepted figure?

Most formulators would be in the 1000 ballpark and HDEO's in the 1200-1300 ppm ballpark. I don't think the Amsoil formulas listed have changed as far as the Zn level goes, even if there have been other formula changes to the additive packages and base oils.

Another WIDELY available option is Havoline deposit shield 10w-40 and 20w-50; both don't have the GF-4 phosphorous limits.

They have 1100 ppm zinc/990 ppm phsphorous; basically GF-3 levels of ZDDP.

Ok, you guys are throwing around a lot of letters I don't understand. One in particular is "SLOB".......what the heck is SLOB, besides my brother in law! LOL

And.....IS GM's EOS now a gonner for sure?

Mark

Now I know what SLOB is! It's not listed in CD-2 (Turtle wax) product line up, anyone know why? Also, I don't see a Virgin analysis of it, can anyone list it's full ingredients?
Would it be possible to buy ZDDP and blend your own oil additive?

Here is the data from a sample of the SLOB in the pink bottle:

Parameter: VOA Data (Manufacturer's data)

Zinc:...........4898 ppm (4700)
Phosphorus:..4921 ppm (4300)
Calcium:.......4279 ppm (7800)
Moly:...........0 ppm (0)
Vis @100C:...29.5 cSt (28)

It's great stuff check @ your local Biglots for it.

Yes the GM EOS is a gonner for sure. I do need to find another product to use in place of it.

How about VSOT (Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment).

Does VSOT have high enough levels of Zinc...??

Just woke up - duh - did a search and this is what VSOT has...

7/11/07 Bstone

Moly 451

Cal 1081

Pot 1

Boron 10

Sil 3

Mag 2

Phos 100

zinc 110

Not as much Zinc as one would believe...
