Another windshield question?

Hey dudes,

I was driving in the snow and slush, and I ran out of windshield fluid, I HAD to use the wipers a few times, anyway those few times put light scratches all over the windshield - My question is there anything that I can use on the windshield to polish out those light scratches ?, I was thinking Poorboys SSR2.5 or mag wheel polish?

Also the scratches are so fine you can not feel them when you drag your finger across the glass.

Any input would be cool.

Use Google to find instructions on polishing windshields. There are special materials because glass is harder than paint and the final job needs to be super smooth.

How hard is to distort the glass with some of these polishing kits? The firebird's glass is really scratched up, looks like from deteriorating windshield wipers. I found a kit with a couple of hard plasticy foam disks that you're supposed to put on a drill to buff the scratches out, but I've been a little leery of using it yet, at least until I have the extra $$ to throw at a new windshield if it comes to that.

I haven't done a windshield, but polishing glass is a slow process so you won't make it wavy very fast, if at all. Do a little and see if distortion is becoming a problem.

I spent a lot of time on an old car windshield and a polishing kit. The result was less than good.

The windshield had a mildly worn, etched and hazy look about it. The polish kit did clean it up, however it was so much work that after 1 day of labor, the only area that was clear was a 1 foot square in front of the drivers seat. AND, even that square ended up with a "pattern" of polished areas.

The end result was that a new windshield would have been worth the cost.
