Another Tesla Model S Firecracker

You aren't warming up to the the idea of an ev?
Nope, they have a lot of infrastructure to get into place to get them ready for prime time imo. When I can find a charging station as fast as I can find a gas station and charge it as fast as I can fill my gas tank, I'm very interested. Until then, I'll continue to read about them.

That's fair, but would issues related to aging not be offset to some extent by improvements in technology? In other words, as the older units see increasing failure rates, is it possible that tomorrow's EVs will drive down the overall failure rate? Clearly the technology is still evolving, as we see new EVs experiencing problems, but surely that leads to lessons learned and subsequent improvements.
We can hope, but trying to increase energy density and utilization percentages of the cells does not bode well for that.

Thinner separators, more lithium, lower viscosity electrolyte with lower flashpoint, thinner foils, etc. all the games used to get the last bit of energy and range, mean that there’s less to absorb energy or hold off dendrites when something goes awry. The separators melt easier, the electrolytes volatilize easier, etc.

More energy in the same volume, then the “features” of “unlocking” the unused margin in the cells all amounts to a more dire situation, especially as the cells age.

Elon and Tesla were not invited to the meeting because the Tesla factories are not UAW Union Shops.

By the way, Tesla's have one of the best crash test results of any automaker. If EV;s are going to be catching on fire at least Tesla is trying to mitigate the possibility of that happening during a crash.
The same reason Samsung is not in Flash Memory Summit. They are the leader of the market and they can afford to go their own way instead of get together in one trade show.
