I think the minimum wage coment is being taken out of context. Their is niothing wrong with makeing minimum wage! The point he was trying to make was that people that have the skills and knoldge that is needed to properly advise the customer base would never work for what discount autoparts stores are willing to pay! THis means that you are going to get unqualified advise from people that know little to nothing aobut the auto industry or automotive repair!

Like wise you will not get great management for $6 an hour.

I blame a lot of the woes we experince shoping for almost anyting on low quality, low wage, low knoldge base employee's that are just their to take up space!

Circuit City is a good example. They used to have very noldgeable staff that were primarily commisson based.THeir were dress atire. So their sales staff were always friendly and hungry to make a deal. They read trade journals for their area of sales so they could speak intellagently on their subject matter. Fast forward 5-7 years and now they have a bunch of pimpled faced punk kids working their for minimum wage. They do not get commisson and do not care about anything. They use words like ya, dun't know, shrug sholders as their polyester panths fall of them. They huddle together in groups and you have to almost grab them by the ears to get them to help you. One told me not to touch the Keroke(sp) machine because it anoyed her!!!!!

Circuit City lost a customer for life. I will not go their at all anymore. I shop on the internet anymore because I can not get any help anymore from the staff any way. Most corperate stores anymore treat you like cattle. I try really hard to keep my business with smaler companys especialy family based if posable.

P.S. I can rember a time when RadioShack sold electronic componets priomarly. Now they are just their to push cell phones and satellite systems. Lets not forgett all the wounderfuly cheaply made toys they get from China to sell to use as well!

This is a reverse side of "best prices". So, to be more exact, such shops could have the following slogan at their doors: "We sell goods you need at best prices, but each buyer is offered a service what the most of our visitors is ready to pay". Many shops cannot efford an erudite stuff, otherwise they will be ruined.

But think this situation is not yet the worst because your sellers still may sell a quality product. Here we came even further: it's not possible to sell a quality product at a fair price because the market is driven by prices only and too often at the expense of quality. This comes from buyers poverty followed by lack of ideas about of consequences and sellers' cupidity. Buyers wants everything cheap and sellers meet this demand: some doubtful quality oils manufactured by order at blenders and a huge number of counterfeit spare parts. Price, price and only price. That's why, a piece of junk, very often unsafe, offered 15-20 % cheaper than a premium quality product is sold quickly, but a quality product needs time to find its buyer. This is a very big headache for foreign companies. The majority of counterfeits come here mainly from China, Middle East and Turkey, so I would "thank" namely these countries for their "great" contribution to the development of world ecomomy and our prosperity.

The AutoZone that I went to (small city of 6,000 people) used to have a few decent people. When they opened they hired a guy that got fired from another locally owned & operated parts store (still the best prices on starters, alternators, etc...) for stealing.

Can you guess what he did at AutoZone? He took them for about $10,000 in merchandise. Somehow, he always made it look like the other guys were making the orders for these parts. When they caught him, they fired everybody.
