Another MMO Application Question

I'm leaving this afternoon to pick up a car that I bought in another state. Game plan is to fly there and then drive back over 3 days, about 400 miles per day.

The car is in excellent shape but I don't have full details (to BITOG level that is

) of prior oil changes, only that it was changed (and maintained) at the Ford dealer per the dealer recommended OCI's.

Before driving it back I plan to add 8 oz MMO into the fuel and the remainder of the qt into the crankcase (has fresh oil change). At every fuel stop I will add 4oz MMO into the fuel. I will change the oil/filter to my preferred brand when I get back home (1200 miles). Is this a good plan?

Car is an 03 crown vic, 113K miles, 4.6 SOHC.

Sounds good, but maybe add some Fuel Injector Cleaner for the 1st tank of gas and then go onto the MMO in the gas at every fuel stop.

Thought MMO -WAS- a F.I. Cleaner? Seems to be one of only about "5" Products that WORK (*SeaFoam, B-12, BG 44K, RedLine S1, and MMO!)

Seems that products that contain >25% PEA are the most effective for cleaning injectors. I don't belive MMO is all that great for injectors.

05 - MMO is not great for cleaning, but it can be good to very good.



Mud - The plan seems safe and sane.
BTW, you are getting a Northern car with a Northern battery. They don;t like the Texas heat. This is for real - there are N+S batteries. So plan on a battery - maybe a year, but acknowledge it now.

That is why I recommend to anyone using MMO in there fuel that it is a good idea to use a Fuel Injector cleaner before using MMO in the fuel. They even say this on the MMO site.

I do believe that using MMO in the fuel after using a fuel injector cleaner will keep the fuel injectors cleaned and lubed.

Thanks very much for the help, I'll do the FI cleaner first, then follow with the MMO. I plan on doing a used oil analysis on the oil when I get home. If I tell blackstone the oil has some mmo will this be ok or would the mmo tend to skew any results? Wanted to get a general idea of internal engine condition especially aluminum. The 01 to 03 yrs were prone to tensioner arm wear even on maintained cars so if high aluminum it tells me the timing chains have worn past plastic into the aluminum. Not a big deal to replace but this is good chance to get the used oil analysis snapshot.

If I have run "10 oz. MMO" over ~40 Gallons of Gas without a FI Cleaner, and SOME B-12 and SOME SeaFoam.. is all OK, or should i abstain from use until i get RedLine SL-1?

And THEN, should i add it to a "Low Tank" (1/3 Full?)

The B-12 and Seafoam have probably done some cleaning, so technically you have used a CLEANER.

I would just continue to use MMO without the B-12 and Seafoam until you get some Redline SI. I would think if you are using MMO at each fillup you should only need to use the Redline SI maybe just once a year.

I always run my gas tank down to 1/4th of a tank and then I add some MMO and fillup.

Not a problem, just tell them how much you added. Actually there are some pretty dang good used oil analysis on here with MMO added, go for it. If you're concerned or worried about the engine, maybe do a follow-up treatment of MMO for the next OCI.

800 miles down, 400 to go. Slight change of plan - I could not find mmo in local small town auto parts but I did find the bg injector cleaner, so engine oil is untreated. Car has run flawlessly, engine dead quite. The only fuel additive I found on the way was Lucas which I'm not really a fan of but I went ahead and have been using it at about 6 oz per tankful (20 gal). Fuel mileage so far with 3.27 gear and cruise set between 70-75 has been 25.12 mpg , very pleased. At this point i won't add mmo to the oil but will do a used oil analysis when I change the oil at home to get to my bitog comfort level oil and filter lol. Thanks to this forum I have a good selection of quality oil stashed.

It is built in late '02 (Job 1 or Job 2)? Take it it's HPP equipped (3.27s)? We want details!

Sounds like a good plan, but I would go with what others recommend and actually do two rounds with a quality fuel injector cleaner, followed by MMO when you get back.

I personally run 120 ml of TC-W3 at every fill up in my Grand Marquis, mainly because it's high detergent and ashless in addition to an UCL.

Yes it's a cv sport, hpp with the 3.27. Trip completed today, everything went great! Mileage average was 24.2 mpg for the trip, included flat hiway as well as travel thru Davis mountains (west tx). Now that I'm back on home territory I can go with the usual dose of mmo that I use on all of our vehicles. Look forward to that first uoa as well. I will also go ahead and use mmo in the fresh oil change as well.

MMO does have cleaning agents in it, btw. I remember reading this on their site and posting it on here awhile back. It was only 70% 'oil' compared to Lucas UCL being 100% lube and no cleaning agents. Since I found that out, I started using only MMO in my fuel. Why not gently clean and lube instead of just lube?
