Now stop being so PC.

I had a female friend who was just the opposite; she would add oil W/O CHECKING the level! she had once run it about 3qts low, still running fine.
so she then got in the habit of just adding it every so often.
I changed the oil for her when I was going to do an MMO soak on it; I had my 6qt pan underneath and it over flowed!
I estimated she had about 8qts in there!

+1. The car and GM will likely get an unfair bum rap from her due to her own operator idiocy.

While I know there are guys guilty of it, I have yet to know of any of the women I know checking their oil regularly. I know many who don't know how, and the rest can't be bothered. They assume that as long as the oil is changed now and then by someone, all is well.

My mother drives a vehicle with a highly tuned SB 350. The thing gets washed and waxed weekly, the interior is immaculate.

She knows nothing about anything mechanical. Everything is a whoosewhhaatsie or thingamagiggie. But she keeps meticulous records of her gas consumption, when air was added and how much to the tires. Anything that gets done gets recorded.

The thing uses about a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles, depending if it is mostly highway or around town driving.

Now she desperately tries to understand maintenance aspects, she knows that running low on oil is bad, too little air in the tires is bad, ect. But for the life of her, she cannot open the hood pull out the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert it pull it out and check the level.

I enjoy driving the vehicle and perform all the checks whenever I visit, and over the holidays I saw she was a quart low. There was a quart of m1 5w 30 in the garage, and I topped it off.

Knowing of her record keeping I tell her that It took a quart of oil.
"Which oil?"
-Motor oil mom
"But the light was not on yet!"
-You never want to see that light come on Mom
" But how do you know when to add oil?"
-We've been over this, you open the hood and...........
"Is that the thimagiggy with the blue handle?"
-No it is the yellow thingamagiggy that says engine oil on it
"I'm gonna call my mechanic."
Headslap
-You do not need to goto your mechanic
"Because when the light comes on, I make an appointment and he takes care of everything, are you sure?"

This went on for 30 minutes until she was reassured I did not mess anything up.

She's not a dumb woman by any means but anything mechanical is simply beyond her grasp.

I tell my father about it.

" I go through this every month" I keep that mechanic on retainer so I can get some peace and keep that dang car running.

What a waste of money.

Why does it go through so much oil?

It's a c-6 corvette with headers, cold air kit, Borla exhaust, chipped.
It's Used that much oil since new.

It's also a manual transmission, She never coasts to a stop, but downshifts so she can hear the exhaust burble. The neighbors hate her for it. The thing is LOUD.

C6 'vette should have the LS2 (364ci), LS3 (376ci) or LS7 if it is a Z06 (427ci). Definitely not a "350", lol

Quite surprised about the oil consumption. Many, including myself would consider that excessive. Nice car though! I can understand why she enjoys driving it for sure!

IDK, It's a 2001 with 72k miles, I thought it was a c-6. Pretty sure it's a 5.7L. I think the consumption is excessive too, but it has done it since new at the same rate. Thing runs great. I can still spin the tires when I slam it in third, but not with her in the car.

That'd be a C5. Would be an LS1 then. 346ci. Still a 5.7L, but very little in common with the old "350SBC" of yesteryear.

Where did this come from? My post is paraphrased from a stand-up comedian. Drew seemed to get it. I think you're the one that forgot how to laugh.

I occasionally see them here, but never the same one twice. Then again, visible smoke will cause your car to fail the emissions test. So I figure that these are cars that some rube bought with a 1-month registration and then they come to find out that they can't renew the registration because it won't pass emissions without a major engine overhaul.

The old CVCC engines could run a long time with virtually no oil control. The tiny rich mixture chamber protected the spark plug from oil fouling. They would eventually consume thier entire engine oil content if left unchecked and die.

I don't know why any other Honda would be able to run while consuming that much oil any better than any other engine.

I've met people who think hondas don't need any kind of maintenance.
the 'clapped out' ones I'm talking about are of the slammed, primered and tinted variety.

the 2001 LS motor is notorius for consuming oil-while under warranty, many were re-ringed.
The PCV system gets equal blame for sucking oil
