good afternoon! THANK YOU for all your help over the months!

Have a 2008 Cadillac DTS, 32,000 original miles on the tires. michelin energy mxv4.

should I buy new tires?

my 2008 probably came out in the fall of 2007, so they are 4 years old. lots of tread left. one mechanic thought they may have around ten thousand miles left. we have lots of snow here in Mass. I thought it might be time to get new pilot sport a/s plus for $700

these would be all season tire, i am still trying to decide to also buy snow tires.
i got lots of advice from you guys on that! thanks!

best

If they have lots of tread left why would you think about replacing them? if they are working fine, I would ride them out they are worn out.

Treadwise, it is whatever you are comfortable with, down to a minimum of 2/32-3/32" of tread.

Timewise, consider 6 years to be a "rule of thumb" for age.

Again, whatever you are comfortable with.

Since you mentioned that you get lots of snow, I would continue to use the MXV4 during spring/summer/fall until they're worn out and get a dedicated set of winter tires for winter.

Also, Pilot Sport A/S Plus is very different from your current MXV4. The MXV4 is more comfort oriented while the A/S Plus is more performance oriented - you'll most likely find it stiffer and with shorter treadlife. Snow performance from a UHP all-season tire also isn't that great in general, so again, I would strongly suggest getting dedicated winter tires.

Even if you were worried about snow, I wouldnt buy tires now, Id get max miles I could out of these. Neither age nor tread sounds bad. Id use these up. If you could use these through the winter and then get a whole extra year out of them before changing, that would be ideal.

I would use them as long as the rubber looks to be in good condition. If the sidewalls start cracking from the rubber getting brittle, replace them.

thanks to all, especially quattro pete! thanks for telling me the pilot would be noticeably different from my tires.

sounds like everyone thinks i need snow tires!! ha! I probably do! My daughter complained her 1999 camry with new tires was horrible in the snow. i got her 4 new snows on rims, really helped!1

THANK YOU ALL!!!!
