All this talk about DI engines and problems/concerns and I haven't seen many, if any, comments or questions about Mazda's DISI engines. Does Mazda have any deposit issues with their DIs? Seems like they have been out long enough to know something by now.

Anyone? Anyone know anything about Mazda DI engines and any issues? I'm looking hard at a CX-5 and love it with the 6spd manual but the 2.0L DI is really holding me back. Maybe someone on here can help ease my worries.
 
I think all the DI engines will eventually suffer carbon issues from exhaust reversion after time. I have not read anything different. I do know port injection keeps intake valves very clean on healthy engines with high tier fuel.

I read some about carbon problems with Audi DI's and it's not pretty or cheap to clean up.

If I'm not mistaken forced induction creates more of a DI carbon problem.

I know what you are saying and that is why I find it odd there are no pics/stories of Mazda DI/DISIs having issues. They have been doing DI for quite a while. I would have thought something would be out there by now.

Go ahead. Buy and enjoy your new Mazda, their DI engines are great. Even better when turbocharged. Just don't expect 10,000 OCIs.

I have to talk myself into letting my current Mazda go, first. I love my 6i and it is just so dang reliable and fun to drive. The dealers have been offering really nice trade-in $$ for my 6i and they might just talk me into it soon.

No fuel wash is no fuel wash. So no cleaning is no cleaning.
Why would a piece of metal [valve] know who built it?
And how would it know how to stay clean by itself?
 
There are so many variables. Cam timing, PCV design, etc. that can make the situation better or worse. Maybe they use Teflon coating on the back sides of the valves. Maybe they do have upstream injectors like Toyota/Lexus that does provide a fuel wash under certain conditions. Even my 4 cylinder sportbike has two sets of injectors in different locations for different running conditions.
