I just bought a 1995 Bonneville SSE (not supercharged) with the 3800 series II and about 147k miles on it. What are people using for oil in their 3800s? I plan to use Wix filters, as ever.

Our 3800 currently has one quart of Trop Artic 10w30, one quart of Maxlife 5w30, two quarts of All Climate 5w30 and a half quart of Rislone for good measure. Hey, you asked!! I'd recommend sale of the week 5w30 for the harsh Wisconsin winters. No sense putting synthetic in a 500 dollar car IMO.

Keep an eye on the coolent; the 3800 by other people's word is a reliable plant but it to suffers intake gasket leaks and warpage of the plastic upper manifold at the EGR port. Your's might be old enough to have a metal upper intake though.

Hmmmm.... Up there I would use one of the thicker 5w30 HM formulas like Havoline HM or Pennzoil High Mileage.

Down south I use Shell Rotella T 10w30 but it might be a bit much for WI Winters.

the current Pennzoil platinum buy one get one free deal? maybe?

i dunno.

personal opinion to follow:
just because you spend a small amount for a car... doesn't mean you need to fill it with cheap parts/fluids.
