Annual oil changes Honda CBR1000RR

I have an '04 CBR1000RR that I ride about 6 times a year. Usually I will do a track day or two and a Deals Gap trip. The other rides are typically 100 miles or so just to get it hot and run a tank of gas through it. It works out to be about 500-600 miles a year.

In the past I would ride 30K+ a year (I sold my '95 CBR600F3 in 99 with over 120K) and I changed the oil every 1,500 miles or after every race weekend whichever came first. Typically the oil would only be in there for a couple weeks - which worked out well with my race schedule which was about every other week.

The 600's I used to run spent much of their life at 13,000 or higher. 8,000 at 90 mph on the highway cruising. The oil would come out nasty and like water after 1,500 miles.

This bike I don't push (this bike is too much for me to race). I run a HDEO 15w40 usually Delvac (no my clutch doesn't slip). After each year the oil still looks like new. I changed the factory oil at about 500 miles, and have changed it in march of '05, and march of '06. Is this OK? Can I go longer? The bike sits in a garage in South Florida. The bike never gets started unless I am going to ride it long enough to get it fully hot, and there are only a few starts throughout the year. My work (and wife) schedule no longer allow me to ride or have time to change the oil as much as I would like.

I know that Amsoil has a 1 year warranty on their oil, and has good corrosion protection. Many oils do not. You might contact your oil manufacturer and see what they advise.

You may want to consider an engine fogging oil after each use if it is going to sit for a month or longer. Also a fuel stabilizer.

I do put Sta-bil in the fuel. I am not interested in fogging it. Just to get to the engine is about an hour worth of work. If it came down to that being a requirement I would make a point to ride it more.

I wonder if you could put in a port downstream of the air filter that you could open, run the motor, fog it, shut down, close the port?

Annual with your hdeo (or whatever), filter every other year. At least that's the routine some of my low usage bikes get.

Your are fine....just schedule the oil change right before the start of the longest period of inactivity.
