Annual Drain?

Everything I read here says to do a annual oil change no matter how FEW miles. Why is this necessary?

Does anyone go longer then one year with say 1-2K miles?

Thought these would be a problem only for short drives where the motor doesn't fully warm up.

It costs maybe $15 for dino or $30 for synthetic. Out of all the expenses you have with a vehicle why not change once a year even if it is only low miles. Seams like it's cheap enough that it shouldn't matter. Shop around and catch your stuff on sale and them prices can be lowered as well.
