We're in our teenage years at our house at the moment, a little fibro house owned by a psychic and a tinkerer for decades before we bought it.

The last couple years, the land has been rejecting foreign bodies, like a teenager and a dodgy piercing.

Every now and then a piece of fibro cement (back when fibro was made of real rocks) pops to the surface...quite large pieces really. Occasionally a 40 year old bottle is discovered when planting a plant.

Under the house is a newspaper that's two days older then me.

Today the kids discovered a screwdriver in the "lawn" (well grass in the back yard. Started off as desert, and through progressive propagation of weeds, is resembling grass.

I looked at the screwdriver, and was amazed.

I've never seen one like it, except in my youth.

Stanley electrical screwdriver, back when Stanley were the only screwdrivers we could get every toolbox had one.I still have the shaft of mine I use as a punch.Stanley's were colour coded - yellow for blade (still have a couple),green for Phillips,,red electrical.I have a large square shank with a blue handle and a large Phillips with a red handle too.

As kids we once found an old revolver in one of my Grandmother's gardens. We were pretty excited about it,but there was very little comment from the adults and it disappeared again pretty quick.I wonder who's little secret was uncovered?

insulated shaft and lack of flaring on the blade tells me that this was used for electrical work. i think they recommend working with the power off now.

I have an oversized, insulated screwdriver that looks kind of similar, but the insulation on mine is yellow.

Looking around the house after we moved in I found a 50ft tape measure that was in good condition.

sniff...It's got "Australia" on the side, from an era when it was a statement, rather than a word when printed on the side of an item.

1sttruck, former owner was an opal miner and lapidiatrist I found a "self rescuer", 200 litres of rock powder, some opal slivers, a heap of pennies, some neat rock samples and a straight razor. A million year old roofrack, some asbestos insulated wire...the list is huge.

When an old man sells you his house, and says "can I leave all my tools, I won't be using them anymore ?".

You naturally say "Yes".

Don't expect his son to come in and take two trailer loads of "tools" out while negotiating the offer, leaving you with a half dozen trailer loads of (generally) junk/debris.

(Yes, insist on the house being perfectly cleaned out. We've had to put the screws to more than one homeowner who wanted to leave "tools" behind [trash, in main]).
