An EV I would buy

There is a lot of EV talk here on BITOG, but not much if anything about what consumers such as me want.
So I started this thread, will share what I would buy if ev shopping, and hopefully others will also share what they want.

I want a small, reliable, fun little car.
2 seats, a hatch or trunk to throw stuff in, good handling, simplistic interior, FM radio, AC, heater, comfy seats, good head room. No sunroof, no bluetooth, no phone pairing, no GPS, no ugly screen glued to the dash.
Front or rear wheel drive, I don't care.
Top speed of say 100 mph, 0 to 60 mph acceleration under 7 seconds, quiet, smooth, good ride, reasonable size wheels say 16 or 17 inch, not 20.
Easily charged up by a 110 volt cord so i can plug it in anywhere, a real world range of 250 miles, and by real world I mean that no matter what it can do 250 miles between charges.
Price it cheap, i mean really cheap, dirt cheap.
If the battery gets ruined in a crash, just scrap the car, and get a new one.
And don't make it super ugly, have it look good, nothing like anything that tesla puts out, which are hideous to look at.
Style it after a 2000 Honda CRX for example.

Skip the oddball door handles and doors, leave out 95% of the electronic junk, and keep the weight low.

110Vac is good to have--but I'd use 240Vac as a rule. My commute is 100-120 miles round trip, and in the winter time, I'm using the heat, baby. 8 hour max recharge time.

BT is a must, for handsfree calling. No I don't use it much. But it's stupid cheap these days, too cheap to not have IMO.

Not sure on the LCD on the dash... I've actually grown to like my mpg readout, and the backup camera. Could I go back to something without? sure, but, they are kinda nice to have...

On the rest, I'm with you. Bring back 60-70 series rubber on 15-16" rims. Cheap tires for cheap commuters. Just don't cheap out on NVH, just because we want low cost, don't penalize us by removing all the deadener, in an attempt to get us to go upscale.

They already make it...

I bought my 02 w/auto Feb. of 2023 for $15k w/60k miles. I'm using it mainly to commute the 1000 miles between or two homes and do it in one day.

I'd be interested in an older Leaf or Bolt. Short drives in Victoria that even a somewhat degraded Leaf would be able to handle fine. Climate is right so there's no extreme cold - down to freezing is usually as cold as it gets.

120v at my house would be more than sufficient but I would install a L2 charger myself if I found it necessary.

I doubt I'll lever buy a 'vette, I bet snow tires aren't cheap for them. Plus I think they only made them in 2 doors? who would want a 2 door car? I mean, I usually toss my laptop and lunch into the backseat before commuting to work, too lazy to pop the trunk, maybe I should get into that habit some day.

What's your dirt cheap price number? Personally this is what put us in a Model 3. Not sure about any weirdness in door handles you're talking about, all that motorized funkiness is in the higher models. I honestly think the RWD is the one to have.

Is there even a car these days that doesn't have Bluetooth standard?
Beyond that we only charge on 110v unless we need to charge in public.

As far as going as bare bones as you can get with that range you're probably looking at a Bolt. The Nissan Leaf doesn't have that kind of range.

The Chevy Bolt is perhaps the closest thing to that today. Wait for the Tesla Model 2, or whatever they call it. Maybe later this year... Who knows for sure?
But don't expect that much of a strippie. And 110v offers 4 mph; pretty much worthless.
I'll be curious to see Model 2. I have a feeling that will be the one that appeals to me.

The Model 2 first production line will be at the gigafactory Austin; an extension is being added as well as more buildings. Production will ramp once Mexico comes on line, but Tesla does not want to wait. The mfg line is expected to be highly efficient.

“We are working on a low-cost electric vehicle that will be made at very high volume,” Musk said in an interview with Sandy Munro.
Munro stated, “They’re going to sell them all day long. And woe to those who are trying to compete with them. It will be a people’s car that everyone can afford. Like a Volkswagen."

Carwow recently offered this rendering; who the heck knows what the car will look like. Tesla has said the $25K car be a hatchback that maximizes usable interior space.

$20,000 out the door Canadian as a maximum price.

Honestly I find fancy annoying.

My 2014 F150 XLT has more junk in it than I need.

I wouldn’t hold my breathe on the Tesla Model 2, or whatever it’ll be called.

Elon first talked about the Cybertruck in 2013. It’s 2024 and they still haven’t delivered any to the public.
They are building the mfg lines now. This is a much different vehicle than the CT. But it is on Elon time, so who knows?

Op specified a two seater.

Are you actually in the market for this vehicle or is it merely an intellectual exercise?
