Amsoil Torque-Drive fluid is a copy of Castrol Transynd fluid for Allison transmissions. It is not Dexron-III, not Mercon, not MerconV...there is no such fluid as Mercon-III.
Castrol Transynd is a Group III synthetic transmission fluid with special friction modifier package for Allison transmissions and is the only fluid that meets the Allison TES 295 spec, and the only fluid that meets the requirements for Allison's extended warranty, if purchased. Other fluids could be tested to see if they meet the TES 295 spec, but Allison charges $50,000 just to set up the test dyno...nobody that I've heard about has ponied up the money for the test.
Amsoil Torque-Drive fluid is only for Allison transmissions. Amsoil says, "AMSOIL Torque-Drive™ is recommended as a direct replacement for TranSynd® Synthetic ATF in heavy duty, on and off highway automatic transmissions manufactured by Allison®, General Motors®, Ford®, Voith® and ZF® or wherever the standards TES-295, C-4, Dexron® III, Mercon® or TE-ML 14C are specified. Examples of operations that benefit from using AMSOIL Torque-Drive™ include municipal or transit buses, garbage haulers, motor homes, delivery vans, emergency vehicles, school buses, dump trucks, utility vehicles, cement trucks, line haul trucks and tow trucks." This means that if Dexron-III is specified in one of the transmissions above, Amsoil Torque-Drive fluid can be used.
Other than GM pickup truck Allison 1000 transmissions (use Dexron-III), I'd prefer
Schaeffer #239SA in an Allison or an application for CAT C-4 fluid.
