Amsoil Super Duty oil filter questions

First of all I would like to thank Go Hogs Go for directing me here!

I plan on running extended oil drain intervals on my wife's 02 Chev Tahoe.
I was looking at the Amsoil catilog and they are suggusting that 25k using their SD filters is ok.

In the begining they have it broken down into a cost chart that shows money savings over 25k but, they also show the purchase of 2 filters.

My question is, is it wise to run extnded intervals with out a by-pass system? Where can I find a after market filter that will clean as well or better than the Amsoil.
My plans are to use the oil life monitor as a guide to double the mileage on changes.
The first time the light comes on I plan on a new filter and resetting. The second time, I will change the oil. Does this sound reasonable?

I do not plan on adding a by-pass system on this vehicle.
My main reasons for extending drain intervals are, #1 time and #2 it seems wasteful to throw away good synthetic oil every 3k.

I would run like you said for possibly twice what the indicator says, changing the super duty oil filter when you reset the light. Their new EaO filters can go the whole year and supposed to be better than the SD that they replace. If you want to stay within their rec. intervals, change oil and filter at 15K miles or one year, unless you rarely do short trips and drive lots of interstate. Then you could supposedly go up to 25K miles. I personally would not go more than 15K unless I did an oil analysis to confirm that the oil is still ok to go beyond 15K miles in a particular engine or running environment. I would think that Sheboygan winters could be pretty hard on an oil!

As far as another filter that could go the distance- no other filters (that I would use) seem to list specific mileage limits, so you will sort of be guessing how long is safe. So read around on BITOG when you have time. The search function will turn up lots of great threads. I would probably use the Mobil 1 filter for extended drains as well as a Wix/NAPA Gold, but neither for more than 10 or 15K miles. For 7500 miles I would maybe look at Purolator Pure One.

Yes, winters are tough, that WAS my original reason for switching to full synthetic back in 95.

we mainly do short trips in the city with occasional hiway and average 12 to 15k miles a year with the tahoe. I am hoping to squeak out a annual oil change.

If you read carefully, you will note that the recommended change interval for the AMSOIL Super Duty filters was 6 months/12,500 miles.
The new replacements, the EaO filter series, has a recommended change interval of 1 year/25,000 miles (less for extreme service or known sludge engines--as is the recommended oil drain interval).
Having used AMSOIL for almost 28 years now, I wouldn't worry about sqeaking out an annual change.
