Redline injector cleaner caused a couple of my NA engines to ping pretty badly ( no knock sensors) . Be careful using it in your application.RL makes great stuff generally, but I stopped using Water Wetter and the cleaner because they weren’t great.
That’s the first time I’ve ever heard of someone saying they had a problem running Red Line’s cleaner. I would say your experience with Red Line’s fuel cleaner; presumably SI-1? Was rare and likely not a problem with the product itself. It’s got a great reputation and many users that have and continue to use without issue. I’m not sure what exactly happened in your experience tho. 🤔

Depends if the injector is dirty, has a bad seal, or if it's physically out of spec. IMO it is less likely to help if you with excessive flow.
It's not really excessive flow on a DI engine it's improper atomization. Direct injectors spray a very fine mist like a diesel injector, if there are deposits it sprays droplets, and since the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder after the intake and compression stroke there isn't any swirling of fuel going on like in an intake manifold port injector. At 200 psi of compression and 1000+ psi of fuel pressure any liquid fuel that doesn't burn goes right past the rings and into the oil.

Sometimes. I've had DI cleaned and tested that simply out-flowed a new injector by 10+%. This was post-ultrasonic cleaning, so no deposits. End of the day they are mechanical devices and do fatigue.

Well, these were two Bmw engines, low compression, (us spec in other words) with rudimentary fuel injection and no knock sensors. One was an M20 and one was an M30. They both exhibited the same behavior, pinging under load where they had never done that before. Neither engine did that with Techron or even SeaFoam in the tank to clean the injectors. This combined with many poor experiences with Water Wetter has dissuaded me from painting all RL products as excellent with a broad brush. I still use some of their products. But I do not use all their products indiscriminately. Perhaps the formula has changed since the mid/late 90s when I had this problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Apparently, those seem to remain isolated incidents, as given its wide use and popularity here I would think this isn’t a concern 30 years later. Can’t recall hearing anything like this myself before and this wasn’t something recent. Not saying your experience isn’t valid, just important to understand its context for today.

A couple days after putting the redline si-1 in my tank I got a p1450 (fuel vacuum purge) code. The purge valve is new. Not sure if it’s coincidence, or if the cleaner somehow caused the code!

Motorcraft purge valves are hot garbage. It’s a total coincidence.

A couple years ago I went through 3 purge valves in 2 months on my Fiesta ST. That purge valve lasted until a month ago when I had to replace it again.

I have nearly 214k miles on my Fist and I’ve gone through 8 purge valves in its life.

Stock Focus RS that is daily driven in 4 season North American climate.
-first UOA is spring summer driving w/o catch can
-recent UOA is all winter with PCV catch can (that is always empty)
-mostly stop and go traffic with some open highway
-always couple minutes of warm up idle in winter
-always wait for oil to get to temp before pushing
-I never lug the engine
-OCI has been 5,000kms (3,100 mi, report is in kilometers)
-Car runs great, no loss of power or check engine light

When I change the oil it never smells like fuel, catch can is empty and doesn't smell like fuel either. I understand blow-by and direct injection and that a certain amount of fuel dilution in the 2.3L EB is going to happen. I've seen other threads of RS owners with fuel dilution but not this high. Does this seem like another problem?
Could the very cold weather affect it that much?
Is there somewhere I should be looking for a leak or a faulty part?

Does it have an aftermarket tune or any mods done?
