Hi,
Has anyone used Amsoil Severe Gear oil 75w90 or 75w110 in Limited Slip Differentials? Does it work well for them?

Worked fine in my GM 8.5, GM 9.5, AAM 11.5, AAM 9.25, etc. So did Valvoline, Mobil, Supertech, etc.

None of my applications have been so demanding to realize any benefit from PAO base.

Yes. It works well, but I did find in some high mileage Ford axles some additional friction modifier had to be added to eliminate chatter. This was also the case with some other gear oils I have used. Just something to be aware of - better to creep up to the right amount of friction modifier than start with too much.

I used it in 2 or three trucks over the years with no issues, maybe 4-5 60k of had miles at a time. I did have an issue with the autolocker, locking on turns, so I added the SlipLock product, and it went away. The intructions on the Amsoil site state that this might be the case=no foul.

I would use with great confidence. Not sure the application, but if it is a truck, I suggest giving the 110 a try.

What's kind of diff and what are you going to be doing with it?

For example I wouldn't waste amsoil in a diff that's going to do a lot of amphibious assault or in one that leaks a lot.
My dodge leaks oil from the diff, it's gets about a cup of oil every engine oci. Mobil1 gear oil will never stay in there long enough to go bad. Walmart gear oil would be fine.
If it's a diff that doesn't leak a drop and you'll never change it because of water intrusion then run amsoil.

Yeah
A pal told me of Ford specific FM. He said his '05 Explorer chattered with some LSD laced gear oil. He did it again with unspecified gear oil and the Ford stuff and all was well. I have an '05 Ranger, so he warned me.
I'm using conv. gear oil and the Ford stuff.

Nothing against Amsoil products
